International Tour Groups (sp. Tibet/Nepal)

I am trying to find a good tour group/package for a trip to Tibet/Nepal. I was wondering if someone could give me the names of the major tour companies. If not for my specific location, then any major player regardless. Thanks!

You're probably going to have to go with a non-U.S. tour operator for that one. The U.S. State Dept. is warning against travel to Nepal by Americans, so I'm guessing you're not going to see too many agencies marketing group tours.

Also, it's my understanding that there is some issue re: the Tibetan government about allowing tourists to move between Nepal and Tibet.

I've traveled with Imaginative Traveler (I believe that they are UK based). They have trips that include both Nepal and Tibet (and trips that include one or the other).

I was quite impressed with them on my trips (not to Nepal/Tibet).

Take a look at Journeys International. They have been around for a while and might be able to help you. The prior recommendation of the Lonely Planet blog or board is a good one as well. I was a travel agent specializing in adventure/luxury travel for several years. I note that none of the companies I would have used are offering Tibet or Nepal to regular tour groups. That suggests caution is required when planning this trip. I used to plan very risky trips for adventurers who would hop on the back of a truck, travel through prohibited areas under assumed identities and other interesting processes. Although I never did any of these things myself, these people stressed that total flexibility and advice on the street was often the best way for them to stay safe. It's hard for me to imagine any of them EVER getting to a point in their lives where a trip to WDW would even be on the table for discussion.
