International DVC Owners

I currently have a reservation At Aulani in August, not only am I worried about Oahu not being open to foreign visitors, but that Canada’s borders will not be open. Do you think DVC will make special considerations for foreign owners if the resorts are open, but we are unable to get there due to border closures? I don’t want to lose my points if I am unable to get to Hawaii.

Right now, DVC is allowing people to cancel. Points are returned back to your account.

Any borrowed points will be returned, you can bank any current UY points as long as you are in your banking window,

Any banked points will expire at the end of your UY. We don’t know how long these exceptions will be in place, so you would want to cancel sooner rather than later

It's really hard to say what DVCM will do given the unknown situation. What's the situation with your points? (i.e. UY, banked, borrowed or current UY) -- that might help give some advice/guidance.

They are all borrowed 2021 borrowed points with an April use year.

Well right now, DVC is allowing borrowed points to be returned to the UY in which they were borrowed. Something to consider if you are traveling internationally. Plus, the Governor of Hawaii is still requiring a 14 day mandatory quarantine for visitors to the state. Who knows when that will be lifted.

100% agree, the changes will likely go away regardless of if you personally can travel to the destination or not. I assume once DVC is able to open again, they'll do that and international owners may still not be able to travel for a variety of reasons (I assume the USA will be under travel advisories for a while considering they have the worst outbreak in the world, which affects travel health insurance etc)

I was under the impression that only applies to reservations during the time the resorts are closed. The OP has a reservation in Aug and they might be open by then. I am in the same boat...reservation for July, some borrowed points and I'm not sure if those will be returned to original UY if I cancel now but the resorts open by July.

If you cancel now before an opening is announce, you will get the points returned. I canceled my May trip end of March and I got them back.

Just canceled some nights in August yesterday, and was told those will be put back within 15 days,

So, as long as it says until further notice, they are applying it to alll..at least until September, as that is the latest that I have seen.

I do think that once they give an open date, things will change...but, as of now, if you cancel, it will apply for the borrowed points,

Late banking will only happen if the resort ends up closed during the actual reservation and the won’t do that until then, I have some Aug UY points freed up from a change in my June trip and they said I would only be eligible for late banking if the resort is still closed.

Thanks, that is good to know. I think I better go ahead and cancel my July reservation.

Do you need to cancel over the phone to get borrowed point put back into their use year, or can you cancel online?

You can cancel via chat or online yourself, I have followed up via chat to make sure it would be done.

It sounds like it will Happen automatically for canceled reservations during the time when the temporary policy is in effect.

I had an April trip with borrowed points (uy apr 2021). trip moved to October and then later cancelled. MS put the borrowed points back to 2021.
Chat told me it would happen automatically within 15 days so I waited and when it hadn’t by day 15 I Chatted again and had them put back.
