I try to stay away from I-Drive north of Sand Lake Road myself. Traffic tends to get pretty heavy there. I like to stay on Univeral Blvd. You may be able to find hotels that are mid-way between Universal and Sea World there.
We're staying at The Sheraton World Resort which is opposite Seaworld.
It has recently been renovated, and has 3 beautiful pools.
