Does anyone know the best deal for international calling, specifically Kuwait? I would like a pre-paid plan.

No on phone plans, but if both side have a computer, you can each download Skype & talk for free. My husband speaks to his relatives in Norway on Skype all the time. The sound quality is as good as the phone line.

I have never called Kuwait, but I have found that the overall best deal as far as international calling goes is through Rebtel. I've been using them for about 4 years now (since they began) and not only have I never had any problems, but the rates have actually gone DOWN over time!

With Rebtel, you sign up, pre-pay an amount, and then enter in the number you want to call. Rebtel then generates a local calling number for you, which you dial, and Rebtel then transfers you to the international number. It's super-convenient, because you only ever have to remember (or enter into your phone contacts) the 10 or 7 digit local number (depending on if you live in an area where 10 digit dialing is used) and the number doesn't change - you always just dial the same local number to make the international call to the same person. And, there's no fussing around with country codes or anything, because Rebtel does that for you!

I can see that a call from the USA to Kuwait with Rebtel right now is 15.9 cents per minute, which seems pretty low to me!

DH uses True Roots and Reliance Call but to call India. I think Skype would probably be a good option unless you want to Google specific Kuwait calling plans :)

I don't know what the cost was but my BIL had an 800 number from his local phone company (AT&T) that was the cheapest way he found to call his son while he was stationed overseas...:confused3

You could check out the rates for jajah - I use it and like it. I use it to call Chile, not Kuwait though. I have also used pinzoo and pingo before for both Chile and eastern Europe. If you are a Sunshine Rewards member you earn $2.50 for making a Pingo purchase and they have some deals posted too. I have had mixed results with paid calls from Skype. They seem to drop often if they are to a phone, but their computer to computer calls are excellent quality and a great savings as they are free!

the plan we use to call internationally would be .10 min. to Kuwait. Sent you a pm.

If the other side doesn't have a computer, you can use Skype as well, not for free though (except toll-free numbers). I'm calling from Europe and I am able to call for free toll-free numbers in the US for instance.
I see using Skype for calls to Kuwait would cost $0.152/min (tax incl)

They also offer fixes prices for unlimited use, but you would have to find out how much that would be for Kuwait.

Good luck! :flower3:

(P.S. Oops, I see now after posting this was an old post, you probably have figured it out by now)

If you are connecting through a pc, there are some softwares that could give a free call through the internet and there are also free applications that could give some free call. If you are always on the go, you can just go and buy some prepaid call cards. :cheer2::cheer2:

if you both have iphone4/i-touch4, download yahoo messenger app. That way, you can both talk to each other and see each other. you both need wifi connection.

Well if you are on a pc addict, i would suggest using skype or gtalk that would help you save money, while when im ourt of the pc, i use voxcall which has cheap rates. :thumbsup2

I would double check to see if Kuwait has a national firewall. When I traveled to the UAE last October, all messager type services including Facebook chat, Yahoo Messenger, BBM and Skype are all blocked by their national firewall. I have a phone through Mobal for emergencies but calling cards were, by far, the cheapest way to call - just not convenient.

Have a wonderful trip - I hope it's for pleasure!

My DH is in Kuwait. We use Skype. We video call during the evening when the kids and I are home. We also signed up for the Skype number (about $25 for a whole year) and DH uses it through his PC to call any stateside number. He can call our cell phones, our home phone, relatives. The service is pretty good. Occassionaly if there is a sand storm he might not get a very good connection but it works. Best deal we have found. Know some of the other guys/families are using Magic Jack as well.

Only thing with Skype, you have to set it up here......it won't let them do it there.

Also, DH is able to get on facebook, etc. and post just as he would be able to here.

Hope that helps!

Everyone who is recommending Skype ect remember that if the person you are in contact with is with the US military-soldier or contractor they are on a US provided network-not local internet where some of those services will not work.
I used a company called Telestial to call local cell phones in Iraq a couple of years ago-it was reasonably priced and worked well-when the local cell network was accessiable. It should be reasonable for calling kuwait as well.
