Can anyone give me some information of a overnight stay in miami.

Think of traveling down and staying over. 4 adults, 1 teen & 7 year old..

Would be looking at basic hotel and some ideas off how to spend the day & night.

Could we just turn up and book a room or would we have to book in advance.?

Any info however small greatly appericated..!!

There are SO many hotels in the Miami area that it would be difficult to recommend one without knowing your plans. I like to stay downtown because I usually have business downtown. Hotels are generally pretty expensive downtown but the Holiday Inn-Port of Miami often is pretty good for downtown and it's across from Bayside Marketplace and the cruise ships.

But if your goal is to take some daytrips down to the national parks then you'd be better off to stay at hotels out in the suburbs. And they're far cheaper too and likely to offer free parking. You can check out Holiday Inn's website for the dozens of hotels it offers around Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

One kind of unique thing to consider is Discovery Cruise Lines day trip to Grand Bahama Island. It leaves in the morning, gives you about 4 hours in Freeport and then gets back to Florida before midnight. The cruise is fun too and includes meals and shows. You'd need your passport of course. It sails from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale. I've done it once and it far exceeded my expectations. Not for everyone but I thought I share something unique with you. If you've never been to the Bahamas it's a quick and cheap way to add it to your bucket list.
