After reading the "6 Disney Secrets" thread, I thought I'd share some of the things I found interesting from when I worked as a CM on Main Street. I don't think any will spoil the magic.
1. Back when there was the Disney Story, in the pre-show area was a poster of Walt with Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. In the original print, both Stan and Walt have cigarettes in their hands. At some point around 1990, Disney wanted to "clean up" that image, and so the cigarettes were airbrushed out of the picture. Below is a bad copy, so it is hard to tell if this was before or after the airbrushing. But a fellow CM pointed it out to me and then it was obvious.
2. There is a break room under the train station (not in the tunnels, but on the regular ground level, but behind an unmarked door) with a very nice mural that was done by a Disney artist while I was working there. It was of two Disney trains meeting, ala the real "Meeting of the trains" when the east and west tracks met, and it included lots of characters. I never got a photo, and since 9/11, photos are not allowed inside, espeically now since I am no longer a CM. Anyone have a photo of it?
3. Once when Macaulay Culkin and Michael Jackson were in the park and shopping along Main Street, I was called to help keep order. As the crowd got too large, they were wisked away through a back door into the underground. One woman offered me a $100 bill to lead her to where Michael was and let her just touch him.
4. A pregnant woman started to go into labor right inside the castle. When we called for a stretcher and tried to get her backstage to where the ambulance would arrive, she refused and made it clear her desire was to give birth in the castle. I'm not sure if they sedated her a bit or what, but eventually, they got her out before the baby arrived.
5. To keep the parade floats from getting caught in the trolley tracks at the crossings, we put long strips of a rubbery plastic we called "cheese" in the grooves. Even then, some floats still got stuck and we'd have to go out and push.
OK - maybe these are kind of boring. Please add more.
