I thought this was a pretty interesting article on all the new fairy and Tinkberbell things that Disney is doing.

http://www.walletpop.com/blog/2008/...-to-shi/?icid=200100397x1212475063x1200800154

It mentions that the Princesses bring in 4 billion a year for Disney. Wow.
Fairies stuff brings in only a measly  800 million right now, but they are beating out HSM stuff by quite a bit.

They mention BBB will be doing Fairy make-overs...I bet those will be way cute!

I'm still not really wild about the commercialization of Tinkerbell though, but what can you do. :confused3

Interesting article -- thanks for posting the link!:)

I like the fairies concept, and I like the attention to an older, non-Pixar character... But I'm concerned about them changing her, too.

I guess I'm conflicted on this...

The only problem with the article is that it compares the total Disney Fairies revenue against that of the HSM 3 opening. I'm sure that if we saw a total for the HSM brand this year it would be a lot closer to the Fairies haul.

That is interesting!! I know in the UK at the moment nearly every bit of girls clothing evry other thing from toys, books, jewellery, make up etc all is either HSM or Hannah Montana - the stuff is everywhere :confused3

This does not surprise me. Before Hannah Montana and HSM came onto the scene, Tinkerbell and the princesses reigned supreme. Even with the new faces, they still give Disney Channel a run for it's money. I personally don't like Tink because she represents the attitude of a diva. This recent fairy obsession is a pretty big push for Disney and at first I was taken aback by it. However, when I thought about it, they're obviously trying to make Tink more "Disney-like." She is the sour apple in Disney's batch of good and kind characters. Changing a cemented image is not going to be easy, but kudos for trying.

By the way, I am thrilled that the princesses take in so much $$$. I like them better than the new Disney Channel stars. They're classics! They're also better role models because they do not have spoiled actors/actresses portraying them who destroy all the good the character might portray. How much do you see ink and paint in US magazine?

I am not surprised at the big difference in profit. Historically, fairies haven’t been marketed as aggressively as the princesses. Plus, there are multiple princesses but until recently only one fairy, Tinkerbell, has had any marketing.

As far as changing her goes, I have no problem if it is done correctly. If they can change Mickey Mouse’s appearance they can change Tinkerbell’s.

Is that your spellchecker doing that? Must be...
