As a man, I have taken over the years countless photos with female face characters. Always with my wife, mom, daughters in the picture. For years, I was able to put my arm around their waist. This time, and every time, the female character would take the lead and ask to hold my arm. I actually think it is a great idea to protect the young ladies playing these characters. I found it very inoffensive and done well. It was said to me in a way that was really pleasant. I applaud Disney here.

I know I once heard an older man make a lewd comment to Pocahontas...he shoulda been thrown out IMO, but she just ignored him...
I'm pretty sure that is how they are trained. Physical harm is different of course. I'm sure they endure more than their fair share of rude guests. People can be pigs anymore. Common decency and manners are waning

No, but it's much more widespread. It used to be rare, now, it's common. Sad.
According to a friend who was a face character back in the 80s, it wasn't at all rare. The only difference is that, back then, it was completely socially acceptable, so no one said anything. You only hear about it more now because it isn't acceptable anymore.

Glad to hear this. It gives some level of protection to both parties, the princesses and the guests. The princesses can avoid unwanted touches and the guests have less worry about being accused of inappropriate contact.

No doubt this is a good policy, especially in this day and age. I just can't wrap my mind around how anyone could grope a princess in public like that though. I mean, the thought would never even remotely occur to me. I'm not sure I'd even attempt to touch them... just, you know, stand next to them maybe. Come to think of it, the only time I can recall actually meeting a female face character was Rogue and Storm from the X-Men over at IOA and that was only because my DD told Rogue that she was my favorite X-Man so they yanked me into a picture and acted like they were mugging me. I'll meet the fur characters, but I pretty much leave the face characters to the little ones.

It seems to have been common in the past. As I have posted once before during our 2006 trip my then 5 year old met Ariel. The young lady was a natural redhead and well endowed. When it came time for pictures she asked what about me and I responded by saying it looks like a lot of boys already bother you (the line was filled with men and boys more than girls). She laughed and motioned me forward. She actually gave me a kiss on the cheek and broke their rules because she whispered to me that I had no idea that so many men has rambling hands.

I was able to put my arm around Minnie. Minnie was the first female character we met this trip and the only female non-face character we met. I assume we met females in male non-face characters.

The Ariel thing - I have heard about this and its just creepy on so many levels.

I have intense admiration for all the CM's who are able to deal with being face characters!

I had the same thoughts while waiting for Ariel in her tiny costume that leaves little to the imagination... "how many people try to touch her all day? should i lean closer or pose at an angle so she doesn't feel crowded?" In the end, we adults leaned in and flanked the mermaid while DD was enraptured ..... and Ariel gave ME a hug as we were leaving! So I imagine that a fair percentage of CM Friends are just people who love hugging :D But that does not give anyone the right to grab or grope at them!
