Hi Sue,
Unfortunalty this site was picked out of the blue - it is beside West Martella Towers Fort on Clarence Higgs beach by the White Street Pier - this land was filled in during the building of the fort, but it has never been known for sure where these slaves were buried - There had to be a place so recognize these poor souls who lost their lives and it was voted that this would be the best place - when I saw it, it was just enclosed with chicken wire with a small memorial - full of weeds - I hope when i go back this time that something more has been done to honor these people.
Anyhow another tidbit about Key West.
