Interesting Fact about Disney

I was watching the GameShow network yesterday and there is a show that comes on called Trivia Trap. It was aired back in the early 80's. Last night they had a question about where Michael Jackson keeps all of his grammy's. He keeps them at what was then the Royal Plaza hotel in Disney World. I am not familiar at all with the Royal Plaza. Is anyone else? Just thought I would throw that out on the boards. All of the gameshows lately have had at least one Disney related question. Some are new and some are from old shows. Interesting!!!:)

The Royal Plaza is one of the hotels near Downtown Disney in Hotel Plaza. All are within the boundaries of WDW though none are Disney owned. Several have undergone name and other changes (Dutch Inn became the Grosvenor, and Marriott used to be a Howard Johnson's, among other differences) over the years, but the Royal Plaza still goes by that identity.

I've never heard the trivia bit, though.

Michael Jackson was a very frequent visitor to both Disneyland and WDW at the height of his popularity. He would often cause mob scenes when he showed up and cry about how he just wanted to be left alone (while dressed in a sequined band jack, turban and with Emmanuel Lewis riding on his shoulder). It didn't take long for the parks to grow rather weary of all the demands that He of The Changing Face placed on security and staff. He was asked, politely, to assume more of the responibility for the enjoyment of his visits, i.e. it was costing Disney too much money and he had to find other arrangements.

The Royal Plaza created a Michael Jackson suite out of the top floor of their hotel to house The Gloved Wonder and his entourage durning their visits; and to rent out at obscene rates all the other times. There were rumors that he considered it his “home” and decorated it with everything (and anything) he wanted.

I have no idea if it still exists, but I doubt it.

P.S. And yes, as far I know the rumors about Michael Jackson trying to hire Disney to build a duplicate of ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean’ at his Neverland Ranch are true. Disney declined.

I once toured this suite and to state that it was gaudy would be an understatement. It was by far the most hideously decorated suite I have ever seen! Yes, there was a fair amount of memorabilia, including grammys and gold records adorning the walls. There was also pictures of him with his various female "love interests". All in all, I found it incredibly tacky. Not sure if they still have it. Worked in the parks once and Another Voice is correct, we were definitely over him quick.

Voice, I think you should write a book about all the little tidbits that you have. Like the one with MJ and him wanting Disney to build a copy of PoTC. Just make a post of them.
