I know one of the great things about WDW is all the cool people you meet. Seriously, there are people from all around the WORLD in Disney. I was wondering if anyone can remember some interesting conversations with other travellers. I remember waiting for a bus and talking to the mother of two adorable twin girls. She had a southern accent like I've never heard before. It was the girls first day of pre-school and they were in Disney instead!

I remember talking to three little girls from NC on a bus in 2005. My DD2 (who was 1 ) was sitting on my lap and they started ooooing and aaahhing over her b/c she was naming all the characters she saw on the ads inside the bus. Then I started asking them stuff and everything they answered was in unison with a "yes ma'am" or "no ma'am". They were so cute.

We met the nicest German family our last trip. We were all on the monorail together and I was complimenting the son, about 8, on how good his English was. Then we got to talking about their school system which was very different than here in the U.S.

We talked w/ an older man on our recent trip who was retired police? FBI? something along those lines. Said that pre-bag check days, WDW was a hot spot for drug runners to meet and swap off goods....a while back they uncovered a $100,000 deal that went down in the Space Mountain building. Said it was because it was easy to meet up there, bags weren't checked and it was dark and easy to conceal. :scared1:

Ahh so the cameras weren't installed on the TTA just for couples that wanted a little more action at MK, eh?? :love2: :love1:

DH witnessed a drug deal in the front bathroom at MK even with the bag checks in place. That was around three years ago. :confused3

While waiting for the parade to start at MNSSHP this year, a woman we were standing next to noticed my DH's bag which had Jack from Nightmare Before Christmas on it. She asked us if we liked the movie and when we said yes she turned to her DH and told him to pull up his pant legs. He had tatoos up both of his legs of Jack and Sally. It was just so odd (the telling him to pull his pant legs up part). :lmao:

We were in line for Soarin' (my mom, dad, sister and me) and these two boys waiting behind us were getting very anxious and impatient, it seemed. The two boys kept running into us, bumping into us, hitting us and anything else really lol. The mother (I assume she was their mother) was doing nothing about their obnoxiousness. I mean, I know kids get antsy sometimes, but I also think it is the job of the guardian to make sure the kids are whamming into other people in line lol. Anyway, my dad asked VERY politly that they stop hitting us. When my dad turned back around in the line, the mother motioned kicking my dad right in a huge cut he had on his leg. She pretended to kick him like that and the kids cracked up. I couldn't believe it!

Not that this was a conversation or anything, but we were eating out at Citrico's one night and we were all so very conscious about our clothing...we were afraid we were underdressed as it was our first time there. We had business casual clothing, so we didn't think it would be a problem. Then, we see this couple walk in dressed as if they should be seated in Victoria and Albert's...following them was another group of formally dressed people. lol. We were starting to feel a little embarrassed. But what really put us out was the couple who came next...

...it was a little boy and his sister...they were wearing formal clothing just like the adults (the boy in a jacket and tie the girl in a small gown) and they were arm in arm! They walked to their table...later we saw the little boy escourt his sister to the bathroom...needless to say we began to feel even more self-conscious of what we were wearing...we still laugh about that night. lol.

Forgot to add this in my other post...(probably the funniest situation I have been in at WDW).

We had ADRs for California Grill at the Contemporary and lucked out with perfect seating right near the window. If you've been there, you KNOW how gorgeous the view is. Anyway, we sat down and waited for our meal, and a while into the dinner, this family sits down at the table next to us. The woman looked rather homely and the man ate hunched over. They had a little *little* kid with them.

So there we were eating and discussing our trip so far and we start to hear the man yelling...erm...fiercely swearing at the woman. The language he was using was FAR from being appropriate for a setting like that. My dad and I could hear more perfectly at what they were saying than my sister and mom could. All I could think about was this poor kid!

So the conversation was similar to this:

Man: [nearing table] Sit down!! What were you thinking? You think you can #$%@^&* say things like that?! Do you!! That #$%^ thing you #$%^*$ said earlier was #$%^#& nothing. What the #$%^ are you doing!? Eat!!

They both went back and forth like that (more the man though).

Then, this is where it gets good. After all that it quiets for a minute or so and I hear the man say.

Man: Happy anniversary!! I love you!!

lol, Then I guess they started to get cold because instead of putting a jacket on, they take out these small bath towels and put it around their sholders. They are sitting in a place like the California Grill wearing towels on their backs...it was quite the entertainment rofl.

In July of 2002 I was relaxing in the hot tub at POFQ one evening, when I was joined by a woman and her son, who was about 10 or so. We started talking about how much we were enjoying the resort when I asked her if she was from New York City (her accent seemed obvious, but its best not to assume). She said she was. I told her I lived right outside Washington, DC. Before we knew it, we were talking about the horrible events of September 11, less than a year previous. She was not at the World Trade Center when it was attacked, but worked or lived nearby and talked about the smoke, smells, and noises resulting from the attacks on the World Trade Center, and I told her about how the attack on the Pentagon shook the building where I work, of driving to and from work through the smoke as the fires continued for 3 days, and smelling things in the smoke I never want to smell again. :sad1: We had both decided that traveling to WDW for a vacation to try to ease some raw nerves would be good for us and our families. And we both found that for those few days, we did feel better.

with us was in 2000 she met up with a girl her age and she was from England!! They got to be good friends and the three of us along with her parents went to E nite we had such a good time!!!--the girls still email

another time was probably when went in 1995 and we used to take the train (DH wouldnt fly then--now he does and loves it :confused3 )

anyways there was a girl around DD age which was 11 she would just glance over to DD it seemed like she wanted to talk but seemed shy--finally DD started talking to her--turned out she was from Norway and didnt speak much English--the girls got along good--I was talking to the older sister she was 15 and I said something like --it must be neat to to visit another country- she didnt know what "neat" meant--then Im trying to think of another word--finally I said 'exciting" then she knew what I was talking about

it was fun meeting up with people from other countries!!!

I felt really dumb about the "neat" thing though :confused3

Last Oct we were at Crystal Palace for my dd's 13th birthday breakfast with another mom and her dd, who was also having her birthday but 2 days later. As you all know, the seating at CP can be a bit tight. We were seated at a table next to two gentlemen. These two guys were having such a great time, and we started just chit chatting. Well, I did...everyone else at my table thought I had a screw loose. Anyway..turns out these two guys were celebrating one guys 60th birthday as well as the 25th anniversary of their being together. Both were professors in a college in PA, if I remember correctly. We had such a nice time, just talking and comparing notes. They are in our photo album now!!! So, when we were leaving the restaurant the other dd asked me why I was talking to those two weird guys!!! She says, and I quote..."You mean they were 'together', like really together??!!" My dd just rolled her eyes and asked her if she lived in a cave!! This poor kid just couldn't imagine talking to someone she didn't know.
Talking to 'strangers' at WDW is one of my favorite things to do. There is so much to learn about others.

Years ago, when I was travelling alone with my DD at AKL, she met a little girl travelling alone with her Dad - They decided to set us up - and asked us separately if we would go play mini putt at Winterland/Summerland. We both said yes and then suddenly they said - that's great we can all go together. lol

We took the bus over, played 18holes, had drinks came back to the hotel - it was fun. The fellow and I had a nice talk - he was from New Jersey I was from Toronto, it didn't work out LOL

Also, my husband wouldn't have been thrilled.

Anyway, the conversation we had was a little ackward as we knew what the girls were up to, they already had a plan to be sisters. :teeth:

Once when I was in line for Space Mountain and struck up a conversation with a young man from France and a solo traveler from India.

Uh-oh! Someone's been letting their kids watch way too much Parent Trap!

That is too funny.

I can't think of any good conversations. Of course, I've only been once as an adult and was too focused on everything around me. And, I'm not big on talking to strangers. DH, on the other hand, loves to talk to people, so I'm sure he's had some good conversations.

not really a conversation but kind of funny ....in line at the safari ride i was right behind 3 young Asian girls who had these cute little folding paper binoculars...they were speaking another language and i kept saying to my husband i wish i knew where they got them . I have a tendency to be shy and don't usually strike up a conversation with people i don't know plus didn't know the language they were speaking to each other so finally after a good 10 mins of me badgering my husband if i should ask them i got my nerve up and tapped the one girl's shoulder to ask where i could buy them and before i could even open my mouth, the girl held up her binoculars and pointed to the side where it said (i think) Japanese Disney (or something, anyway they got them some Disney place but not wdw...)we all laughed since they had obviously heard me debating on if i should ask for 10 +mins. just kind of cute the way she did it.

Funny (weird?) story! You scared me with the start.

We too had ADRs for the California Grill at the Contemporary and lucked out with perfect seating right near the window. As we sat down and waited for our meal, the family next to us turns out to have a little girl and a boy, just about the same ages as ours. (5 and 2). The girls got to talking - They were staying at the Yacht, us at the Beach, and both of us were ready for a "down" day after days of park attacks. So the next day the kids and the wives met at the pool and spent the day hanging out (me, I was sick and slept most of the day but recovered OK).

We could have sat at the pool and stared at the sky, but for sake of a conversation between two 5 year old girls, we had a lovely and memorable dinner followed by a relaxing day with new friends.

I like talking to strangers under the right conditions. I have yet to meet someone that isn't interesting - as they are are always different from ME! :) (I already KNOW all my stories!)

Well.. once my sister and I got on a boat on It's a Small World and the man who was sitting next to us thought we were from Holland? He was really excited though. He took our pics and everything. It was his first time in WDW (he was probably in his upper 20s or lower 30s). I love it when I see people like that there.

My boyfriend had a convo with a man standing in line waiting for the bus one night and they talked about the buses.
