Interesting availability at VDH

I was one of the many trying for a reservation this morning. I was actually trying to pick up nights at VGC that people might have been dropping for VDH. After many hours, I was finally able to get into the booking page.

I've noticed that there is availability for studios, even duo studios, for October, November, and December, but there is no availability for the larger rooms. Even one bedrooms, which are usually the last to book for the Florida resorts, show no availability in the opening months.

Are the larger rooms not going to be available for booking when the resort opens?

Very few larger rooms have been declared into inventory. There are also many, many more studios and duo studios in general than 1 BRs and larger. There is also (I believe) I only one dedicated 2 BRs. All others are lock offs.

A couple of things:
1) There are very few larger rooms for this resort. 19 1-bedrooms, 20 2-bedrooms and only 2 Grand Villas
2) Since it's actively selling, only about 17% of inventory has been declared so far so not all of that small amount of larger rooms is available for booking on points yet.
3) After you do your search go up to Room Type and click Accessible Rooms. If you're ok with an ADA room, you might find one available. And yes I think we should give ADA folks a huge head start, at some point everyone should have access to all the room - especially at a resort where such a small percentage are larger rooms.

Have a Magical Day!

Actually there are 20 dedicated 2-bedrooms, 18 2-bedroom lockoffs and 1 dedicated 1-bedroom. Here's the first declaration breakdown and the totals for each room type assuming it isn't Aulani and actually sells out like most DVC resorts :-)

I'm mostly curious which of the 1 bedrooms is the lone dedicated one and why! All mysteries solved eventually :-)
And we'll find a way to shade/modify the facts - it's best for wives always to be correct.

Thank you so much for this information! Explains a lot! Sorry I do not follow how units are declared, etc so this is probably a stupid question but assume as more points are sold more are declared DVC? If so, would availability for the larger units open on a rolling basis or are there set dates they would declare more units? TIA!!

That’s an excellent question and there’s some debate about that. Some people think they sold rooms as cash and I just adding declarations to the end of the calendar. But when the second declaration in theory happened, there was a string of waitlists filled most (all?) of which that were reported were studios. I had a two bedroom of both types waitlisted from day one and no dice, but there are so few of them in theory added that who knows - would only take one or two other people to get instead of me.
If you are OK with accessible rooms, have you search for accessible? A lot of larger rooms are in inventory and still available under that category.

As sales happen, and more units are declared, they are immediately available for DVC bookings. If there are waitlists in place for those room sizes already, they will get filled.

It will also open up the potential for booking other room sizes when more of those become DVC. For example, there is only one of the two GVs declared, Until another one is, it means only one guest is going to be able to book it.

I get that but say for Opening Weekend(s)... did they sell cash whatever wasn't initially declared? Or do they have to save aside X for potential declarations between now and then for all room types (except GV since there's only 1 other). I bet they *wanted* to cash in on as much interest as possible - just not sure what they are allowed to do.

Also @Sandisw you are officially the most widely wise, prompt, level-headed and kind person on disboards. I'm a huge fan of your contribution to the community! XOXO

So, there are only 2 dedicated 2 bedrooms that were part of the first declaration. When I did a search for my dates, there was a 2 bedroom accessible room available. I wonder if both 2 bedrooms are accessible or if it is one regular and one accessible. Is the breakdown of accessible rooms vs standard rooms shown anywhere?

I don't every remember them having presales for cash rooms prior to VDH sales starting. My guess is that they did not sell all the rooms that were not yet declared but rather, made an educated guess on the best case situation for sales and what might need to be declared and went from there.

And, you are sooo sweet. I appreciate the kind words!!!

The dedicated 1BR is on Floor 2 and was in the Phase 1 declarations and after studying current inventory levels, I'm ~95% sure the dedicated 1BR is one of the accessible 1BRs. I'd guess the wheelchair accessible room would make the most sense to be separate?

Curiously, there are at least two accessible 1BRs as there are 2 separate categories, a wheelchair accessible category and a hearing accessible category, with different availability. And yet zero accessible 2BRLOs, at least according to what room categories are bookable.

It shouldn't be possible to have multiple accessible 1BR yet zero accessible 2BRLO, considering there's only one dedicated 1BR. I suspect at least one of the accessible 2BR categories is mislabeled, or hearing accessible rooms can also double as non-accessible? I'm not very familiar with what's different about a hearing accessible room.

Proof of multiple accessible 1BRs, with different availability (i.e., it's not the same room doing double-accessibility duty):

Accessible 2BRs:Screenshot 2023-07-28 at 5.35.18 PM.png

Note, the 'waitlist only' 2BR category does not appear to have any rooms declared yet, and has an identical description to the first category listed (which shouldn't happen). Also, the 'waitlist only' 2BR uses the photo from a 1BR, similar to what non-HA 2BRLO do.

EDIT: the simplest explanation I can think of unfortunately requires 2 mistakes (I'd prefer a 1-mistake explanation):
  1. They mislabeled one of the hearing accessible 2BR categories as 2BR instead of 2BRLO
  2. They then allotted 2BRded inventory to the incorrectly labeled category that should have been 2BRLO

REALLY appreciate the information. As others stated, you are a wealth of knowledge! I do see accessible rooms available for our dates. It feels wrong to book those, however, since we are not in need. Maybe when we get a week or so out and they are still available I may reevaluate and figure if anyone needed it by then would have booked.
