How do the interactive wands work in the wizarding world??? Is it a special wand you would need to purchase or do all of the wands from olivanders work?? Also do they work in both locations of the wizarding world??? How have you found it with your kids? Worth doing or no? How much do they usually cost?

The interactive wands work spells in various places around DA.

It's quite cool to watch and TM are there to help out if need be.

There are plain wands and interactive wands, so make sure you buy the right ones.

My adult daughter purchased an interactive wand (be careful, because the shops also sell non-interactive wands) when we visited last November and we had a total blast with it... BUT, let me tell you that some of the spells are not always easy to accomplish! Like stated by the pp, there usually is a super friendly wizard or witch nearby to lend a helping hand, but it can get a bit frustrating for some of the less patient kiddies (and adults). You have to spot the sensors, and then do the correct movements from the appropriate angles. It's very cleverly done. At one point, my daughter stepped up behind a young boy who was having a particularly difficult time with a spell and very discretely performed it for him. He was overjoyed at his 'success', while his parents were totally relieved to finally move on. I suspect some of the TMs do this as well at times.

And there are places in both locations, though more in DA. Make sure you buy the interactive ones, as they have a different tip than the non interactive ones. Ask and open the box. My kids and I had fun with one.

We had a 6 year old with us when we went last. She loved the interactive wand. Some of the locations were tricky and she couldn't accomplish them but it didn't seem to bother her.

I assume the interactive wands cost more than the regular? Think I would like to get one for my daughter since it will be her birthday when we go to Diagon Alley for the 1st time.

And open the box and take out your wand, to make sure the right kind of wand is in the box.

We had a plain Snape wand in the interactive Snape box. Since we hadn't seen an interactive wand DS and DH just figured they hid the "works" inside the wand and weren't looking for anything in particular. Made for a frustrating couple hours, let me tell you. Hopped to IOA and I finally just took the wand and went and asked a TM at Ollivander's there. He asked some questions and got his manager who replaced it. Some sneaky person got an interactive wand for a plain wand price...harumph.

DH and DS grew bored of trying to "do" the spells. Found the sensor and just pointed the wand at it. Boom, worked. Made me happy because watching them do the spells was just as much of a joy as watching DS do Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom. (which is not joyful at all for me, especially if you're behind 5 other people doing the same exact thing as each other...augh.....)

I prefer the free version; loiter for 2 minutes near a spot and watch others do it. Move to another spot, loiter, watch. etc. I like the one at the fountain that gets unsuspecting people *behind* the wand-holder. heh heh.

Great information everyone. But can someone say how much the interactive was is? And I'm assuming you can buy it at either Olivander's DA or Hogsmeade...

The map that comes with the interactive wand looks pretty cool too!

No way!! Gotta keep them so you HAVE to go back!! ;)

My kids got every penny's worth of the price out of them....loved it.

Yep......I brought back my friends 3 kids a wand each and they still play with them and love them! Money well spent........:thumbsup2

$44.95 + tax. For the interactive wands. They have around 16 to choose from.

DD is worried that there may be less styles of interactive wands than regular wands. Can anyone clarify? We are hoping to buy an interactive wand and have just as many choices for it as for a regular...

From memory they have Hermione's, Harry's and Dumbledore's wand and then the rest are generic wands from Olivanders like birch, ash etc.

Sorry wrong thread........
