I was in Fla last week...did 'something' to my knee and ended up in Celebration Hosp Emerg for 3-4 hours. Anyways, I have medical coverage on my Homeowners and am sending the bills etc in tomorrow. My question is...I have a $200 deductible on this plan. Anyone know if my Avion-Infinite will pick up the difference between what the policy covers and this? I can call Visa..just thought someone might know?

I was between using the Visa medical or the plan...never having used either.

Thanks!:thumbsup2

I am not familiar with your insurance, but I have had a trip to the e.r. in Florida and dealt with insurance as a result. I suggest you get your hands on your policies and check the section about submitting a claim. If it is unclear, I suggest you call your insurers and ask how they want claims submitted. For my insurers, I had to submit a claim first to my out-of-province insurer that covered me through work, and afterwards to my travel insurance. By the time I had completed both those claims, I was nearly 100% re-imbursed. You have to keep good records, and keep careful track of what documentation was sent to each insurer.

2.5 hours = $1,800

I had an Ulstrasound and pain injection. The care was amazing tho!
They told me if I paid at the time..they could reduce the cost other than the Dr's bill, by half. So I did. Bill came in at just over $1,000. The Insurance company were willing to settle the bill later and the Hospital was fine with that but it seemed unesscessary to me to incur the addt'l fees.

:scared1:

I have zero deductable on my Visa Infinite, (CIBC) so it you have a zero deductable, I'd use the Infinite.
Have you reported the claim yet to any insurance? It does say that you should phone to advise them at time of treatment.
I've never had to use my travel insur either. Knock on wood! I usually have BCAA, but this year have decided to just go with the Visa Travel Insurance. It seems like a good policy, with trip interruption/Cancellation on it too.

I wouldn't however rely on their car rental insurance!

I have already reported to my Insurance yes. We called them enroute to Hospital and they faxed through forms to the Hospital while I was still there. I should have claimed against the Infinite card perhaps..then no deductible. That's why I wondered albeit after the fact--if I could then claim for the difference with Infinite. Makes little sense though that that would be possible...oh well....

My trip to the E.R. in Florida occurred in the 1980s--a long time ago! I was diagnosed with gastroenteritis, and required an i.v., an injection and observation. I wound up staying overnight on a wobbly cot in a linen supply closet in the E.R. The cost was about $700 US.

I guess you could always try, the worst they can say is no, they won't cover the balance.

I hope they don't make me claim on my Extended Blue Cross thru work if I ever have a claim. It would eat away on my lifetime limit. That's why I get travel medical.

Be cautioned!

I was at Florida Celebration Hospital about 18 months ago when I was struck by a truck while I was walking. They offered me 50% also if I paid there, which I did. I then sent my claim to my insurance and was compensated.
Then, about a year after that, they turned my account over to a collection agency. I was told that since I had insurance, they should not have offered the 50% discount, and they now wanted the rest. I responded that I have a receipt stamped 'Paid In Full", and they would get no more.
I subsequently met another family who is having exactly the same experience.
My insurance company is fighting it out with them now.
