Might be TMI!
After having Eli at home my Midwife realized that I had a 3rd or 4th degree tear. This is not soomething she repairs and I needed to go to the hospital.
When we got to the hospital I was taken up to the maternity wing. It was determined that I had a 4th degree tear. The Doctor wanted to take me down to the OR to have this repaired. Now, had I had Eli at the hospital they would have done the repair in my room.
We ended up convincing them to do the repair in the C-section room in the maternity wing so I could be close to Eli. They brought everything up to the C-sec. room from the OR. I ended up with a spinal to take care of the repair. I also had 3 bags of IV fluid and had quite a bit of blood loss from the tear (not from the birth.)
The billing department at the hospital is coding this as "rountine maternity" which our insurance does not cover. It will, however, cover this as an emergency which we believe it is. My MW also believes this as other hospitals she has delt with have billed it as such. One of the insurance women also called us and said she thought it should be coded different, but, when it was sent back they said it was coded correctly. However, our bill from our anesthesiologist must have billed differently because our insurance covered most of it.
Honestly, I have never been in the ER and neither has anyone in my family. And I don't know much about insurance. I believe we have an arguement because Eli was not born in the hospital. I HAD to go to the hospital to have this taken care of.
What do you think?
*DH is calling to find out if they knew/know I did not give birth in the hospital. They probably don't have that information.
