I'm sure this question or similar has been asked before but i'm struggling finding anything so sorry in advance.

I think we have decided on a fly drive LA to Vegas for 16 nights then on the Orlando for a 2 week stay next Sept/Oct.

I'm going to start by booking my flights hopefully as soon as they come out and then DIY with all of the hotels etc.

I was planning on booking with my credit card just in case anything happens to the companies in between booking and going and also taking out insurance.

By paying on a creadit card would that cover me for nearly 12 months between booking and going?

Can i get my own insurance starting from the booking date? as I'm sure that when i normally get insurance they just ask for the date of travel and to be honest i've never even thought about the inbetween period and if i was covered or not

As this is the first time we have done a full DIY holiday I am a bit nervous about anything going wrong so would like to make sure i have this covered before i pay out for anything.

I like to get my insurance as soon as possible after booking. If you have to cancel, you may be able to claim your deposit back, which you will otherwise lose. There is no merit in leaving insurance until later. Even if you wait around for a deal, I can't see any point in risking a multi thousand pound holiday to save £20. Your insurance covers you for the dates while you are away but it also protects your trip from the date you take it out until you leave, in case anything should happen in the interim.
