I was wondering if anyone here invests in the insurance for points? Do you think it is worth it? I have reservations for August and our lives have been such that illness has struck several times in the past 5 years (serious issues like open heart surgery, kidney failure, death) that I feel uneasy NOT to.

It would cost $70.00 to ins 280 points. Should our vacation need to be cancelled for emergency reasons, the ins. would pay $5.00 per point totaling $1400.00 PLUS your points still go into holding for use (or course with restrictions).

You might want to check out insuremytrip.com. They may have a more complete policy.

Have you confirmed that the points still go into holding? I thought that you lost the points if you accept the payment.

I have purchased the insurance a few times. In doing so it allowed me to sleep better, it was one less thing I had worry about. Health is a concern and we seem to take our vacations within the last three months of our use year which doesn’t allow us to bank points using the additional month under the old banking rules. I always purchase the insurance only after 60 days has passed since my last doctor visit or medication change so that no denial can be attributed to some change made at either of those events. The only draw back in doing so is that I purchase the insurance long before we go and if I have to cancel for other reasons I get a “credit” from the Travel Guard that has an expiration date (as I recall).

I would like to hear from anyone who had experienced having to submit a health related claim and find out how it was determined if the incidence would result in a payout or denial.
