I have booked a cruise using my DVC points.....well partially.
Used Cash for part.

ALso it is 2 rooms!

JUST RECEIVED MY CONFIRMATION PAPERS!!!! yipee!!!!!!!

Which reminded me to get Insurance.....

OKay now do we need to get 4 different insurance policies?

1 for dvc points for each room
and
1 for $$$$$ for each room

did i say that clearly?

There should be an insert from Travelguard with your cruise confirmation. Give them a call and they will be able to give you a quote for the points and/or cash, as well as for medical, baggage, air, etc. They are the only insurance company who will insure the points and the coverage is $5 per point for replacement.

What is the "true" risk, besides medical?

Point/Cash wise, there should be no major concern.

Rarely is the insurance risk justified to pay what the insurance costs, IMO.

Well, I do take a chance at times when I book my cruises on points, but never risk on the medical policy. Always take that one..

My mother was cruising years ago and was actually headed down the corridor to board her flight from Boston to CA where she was heading then off to Princess line to cruise to Alaska. She was pulled off the plane where they informed her my uncle was dying. She rushed to his side and was reimbursed for everything except partial price on excursions.

One never knows what can go wrong. Had she been cruising on points (she is not an owner) for example, she would have lost it all...just a couple of days prior to sail date.

Yes i did get the purple paper from travel gaurd, which is what got me thinking i need to get insurance. SO they can do both for me?

WEll i guess there could be

a wreck on the way to the port and you miss the boat.

a fire in the hotel you are staying at the night before the cruise.

DD falls in the lobby of the terminal and breaks her leg

DS decides to do a cannon ball into the goofy pool and breaks his leg

You enjoy your dinner just a little too long while in port and you miss the BOAT!!!!

Your DD gets the measles 2 days before the cruise

You Dh runs off with the lady next door.....guess she isnt a lady then is she??

I could go on..........

So instead of worrying about all that i just buy the insurance, actually it really is a pretty good deal, if i pay about $200 i can get back about $3300 i say that is pretty well worth it!!!!

An airevac from the Bahammas (helo from Castaway Cay and/or aeromedical plane from the larger islands) can run in the $30k plus amount.

We had a family disembark in Nassau on our trip to fly back to the states. So anything can happen. Insurance is key with large potential outlays like that.

This may be a stupid question, but does your medical insurance cover overseas?

Most do not, that's why I say, international medical may have some value to insurance, but the other risks are not worth insuring. A total of $3,300 is not an insurable risk in my opinion with the small amount of risk that is attached to the cost.

Sure there's a concern. With a final payment date more than two months prior to the trip, there are significant penalties if you have to cancel close to sail date. For many people, losing thousands on cruise fare for a trip they have to cancel last-minute IS a major concern.

Some do and some do not. If you are on DCL for example, you will be charged any medical visit via your shipboard account. They do not accept insurance. You may be able to submit it after you return.

If you are in a foreign country, some insurances allow you to submit for reimbursement also. Medicare does not cover anyone outside of the U.S., however, so be aware and check this out before leaving the U.S.

I was always under the impression if you cancelled(using the insuranance) you didn't get your points back. YOu got a cash refund. Is this correct?

Thanks
