I had a very good insurance policy thru my dh's work. He's been forced to work for a non-union company for a couple months. The coverage expires today, but I have 45 days to choose to pick it up retroactively thru cobra. It's very expensive. He has coverage available thru his current employer which is lousy and also a bit pricey, not nearly as much as the union plan, but as I said lousy coverage.
He will be back with a union company shortly and they immediately reactivate your union coverage. I was planning on going with the work plan until then.
Three weeks ago my son broke his hand. It's being treated and covered under the union plan. They just told us he needs surgery. I want that done under the old plan which is a ppo, not an hmo like the new employer plan. I want my son to continue seeing the dr's he's with.
Does the insurance have to cover an injury that treatment was begun under their plan? If so then I won't have to pay the $1000. needed to continue the insurance under cobra.
