Insurance Claim refused - spoiled our trip

I just read the bit about the insurance being included with your bank account. I have something similar but get a separate annual policy because the 'free / included' policy won't cover my husband who has pre-existing medical conditions even though the pay policy with same bank and underwriters does. The answer from the underwriters was that you don't get as much for the included policy so I would add to your warning to beware of these 'included with bank account' policies, even if you are paying a monthly fee of £10 or so!

I agree it is horrible that you have been effectively left out of pocket by your insurers, and I hope that you get somewhere with them soon.

Having done a 4 night Disney cruise myself I just thought it was worth pointing out to anyone considering a cruise that you really must check your insurance for your trip will cover your cruise before you go.

Some companies will cover you free, and some will make additional charge, but just about all of them will require that you notify them you are going to be doing one.
The main reason I am saying this is not just because of the unfortunate posibility like the OP's case of missing the cruise due to illness, but more importantly if you are taken ill when actually ON the cruise ship. In worse case senario you might like to think just how much an emergency airlift off the cruise ship might cost you off America (or anywhere else come to think of it) :faint:

We took out insurance with Virgin Money this year because we are going on a cruise and they informed us that the trip to Florida is covered and the cruise is but the drive to the port is not (not sure why) so they do cover cruises but we had a lot of trouble with Atlas Direct last year who didn't cover cruises because when we damaged a camera on the boat they said that we put the camera in danger by taking it on the boat hence they couldn't pay out and that this part was not covered. Moral is check with the company before you pay out.

Wow !! - glad YOU weren't taken ill on the ship then, or I guess they might have applied the same logic to you ! ;)
