Insulin/Syringes?

Is there a particular form provided by DCL for this or is it just a generic note from your doctor?

Thanks for the terrific advice!

When you call about the fridge and the Sharps container you can also request the medical form to be sent to you. :sunny:

As I said before, I have not had a problem, and I do not travel with a doctor's note.
DCL did have my medical form before the cruise. All my other scripts are in precription bottles. DCL didn't give my bag a second look. (separate bag carrying all my meds) Actually the only thing they gave a second look was my folding canes and that was only because they were folded and appeared similar to guns. Once shown to the inspectors we were quickly on our way.
In 30 some years of using insulin and travelling all over no one has ever questioned my having insulin and syringes or asked for a doctors note.

As someone else just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean it doesn't happen at all. I use to be a nurse in a very busy Family Practice clinic. Mny of my patients traveled abroad. A few had their bags searched and were questioned extensivly about their syringes and insulin. Because we provided the letter and they had their orginal labels and such they were sent quickly on their way. One patient didn't heed our advice and didn't have all of that and was detained briefly having to explain everything to the authorities. They were sent on their way. Since getting a letter from your doc and having the orginal labeling is not a hassle for the most part, it can't hurt to have it. It's not like you've got to jump thru hoops to get a letter saying you have a medical condition that warrents needles and syringes. At least it shouldn't be!

my DH is on an injectable/refrigerated medication but those extended cruises made me wonder about taking a few extra days worth or not?

None of us take insulin, but whenever we travel anyplace, even by car for just a w/e, I always pack a few extra days worth of our meds to bring with us. You just never know what may detain you. I have been detained by weather, unexpected family illness, etc, and was very happy on several occasions thru the years to have some extra days of meds with me. They don't take up much space, and it's one lesss thing to worry about if something unexpected comes up. :goodvibes

Just one more thing. On the May repo cruise we forgot to ask Disney ahead of time for a syringe box for my husbands lancets. We just went down to first aid and they gave us one. All they asked was that we left it in a noticable place upon disembarkation for our room host so they could return it to first aid.

We found this out the hard way. We were visiting Chicago for 1 full day & night of sightseeing & my DD had forgotten her insulin at family member's home a good hour away. It's near dinner-time & we've also paid about $25 each to park the 2 vehicles. We'd heard several times that "insulin doesn't require a prescription" so we went to the nearest downtown pharmacy, gave some personal info that was recorded in order to buy syringes & found out that while they would sell us 1 of the 2 insulins she uses the other (Humalog -- rapid-acting) was only available by prescription in that particular State. We had no idea at the time that 1 insulin would be any more special than any other. Now this was a couple years ago. So be prepared & check specifically!
