We're going late Aug and will be toting Frogg Toggs and a Misty Mate. Wondering if its a good idea to bring an insulated water bottle full of ice to the park each morning to be refilled at lunch each day. If so, which one will keep ice from melting for several hours & be light to carry?

We recently bought both Bubbas and Contigos. If full of ice, they both keep ice even in the hot car for at least 5 hours. We haven't been out longer than that. I think the Bubbas are a hair better insulated than the Contigo. The Bubba we found at Walmart also has a ring on it, so you could attach a carabiner to hook it to something.

ETA: Both brands are the stainless steel type, not plastic.

Hydro Flask has changed significantly over the last couple years ..their service hit bottom. I want to say they got a new president or something with "new" ideas ...which isn't necessarily good for consumers. There were also similar stories on the DisBoards discussing this same issue. I've switched to a Laken ..its just as awesome -I use it every day.

One thing that swung me is the fact that it is NOT made in China ...believe it comes from Spain(?)....

We bought 18 oz. Takeya insulated water bottles for our trip last month. They worked out great! We experimented at home, and there was still ice inside 24 hours later! We'd fill them up in the morning, and we always had cold water. It was very easy to refill at quick service locations. I highly recommend them!

Swell is a great bottle. I took my swell in June and filled it in the morning and has ice still when we got back to the hotel at 11 at night.

canitgo is also good. I have a few of them and they are good but the ones I have close but can still leak becaus the seal is a button you push. The swell body has a screw cap.

I recently got a hydro flask from Dick's after reading about them here. The first one I got didn't seem to be keeping ice for hours and water cold for 24 hours, as promised. I was able to return/exchange it with no problem and am very happy with the new one. One key is definitely to fill it FULL of ice. I can leave it in a super hot parking garage all day and it still has ice 10 hours later. I really like the fun colors and the feel of the bottle - no condensation. I got a kleen kanteen sport cap to use with it, which is more practical in my opinion. It's for my upcoming disney trip but I like it so much I'm using it all the time now.

I just got us each a Kleen Kanteen for our August trip. I tried one out yesterday and I love it! It kept ice in it for 24 hours, with a few of those hours in the hot car!
I initially got the 12 oz, hoping to minimize weight and bulk when carrying them around in the parks, but returned them for 16oz which is perfect!

There are many good double wall insulated vacuum bottles out there. I use a Thermos and a Hydroflask.

I am impressed that ice cubes either melt slowly to keep the water cold or remain in cube form.

What I personally find odd is when people say, "The bottle was still filled with ice cubes at the end of the day!" Aren't people drinking the water? During my work day, I refill my bottl several times with water and half dozen ice cubes.

Also know that it is very easy to get cups of cold ice water in the parks at any quick service location. I did not carry a bottle a bottle in July.

We're just back and found it easiest to carry a round of disposable water bottles with us in the morning and once those were gone, we got cups of water from the QS places.

A few thoughts. I don't even know what brand it is, but we have one we bought from Wal-Mart several years ago. It's a thick plastic with an insulated layer around it. It's got a large shoulder strap, so you can easily carry it. I guess it carries about 1/2 gallon, so it's decent size. If you've got somewhere that you have access to a freezer, just fill it about 1/3 of the way with water and stick it in the freezer overnight. When it freezes into a solid block, it'll make it all day long and you can refill it several times. In fact, my family sometimes complains that it's too cold. We use it in the heat of June and July and it works great.

Also, if you don't want to carry stuff around, all the parks give out free cups of ice water. Just go to any counter service location or most of the kiosk type places and they'll give you as many cups of ice water as you want. Toward the end of our recent trip, we started leaving our water thermos at home and just doing this. Fresh ice water at any time, without having to tote it around. Fantastic idea.
