Instruction review

You're kidding me. People actually cut corners short and cheat? What's the point of that? Aren't you racing against your own times? Aren't you only cheating yourself? That's just silly. I guess I'm still a newbie having only run one half marathon, but I just didn't realize this happens.

That is exactly my thinking. I would rather fail on my own than succeed by cheating. It isn't like it is for a $10,000 prize so the only person you're really lying to is yourself.

Just watch as you run the out and back in mile 20-21. (Well most likely not for anyone faster than a 4 hour event) Course workers are stationed at the very beginning of the out and back which is the intersection of Osceola and World Drive. A left turn there takes a full mile off the run. However, there is an aid station on the back side and you will occasionally see a very parched runner jump over to the back side for a drink and never return. More common than that are runners cutting the far end cone. Not a big infraction but cutting a few feet off the course that are more than likely lost in missing tangents. The bad thing about cutting the cone is that you miss the mat. The mat is located at the far end of the out and back. If there is an intermediate mat that would be reviewed for the Goofy I would assume that would be the one.

In all actuality the reason I am watching so hard is the half mile out plays games with me and I have to focus on other runners to push the “just make a u-turn now” demons out of my head. Like you, I would never miss the mat due to the code of covering every mile but if that demon takes hold on the out part of the out and back it does force a walk to overcome.

The thing I hated about that out-and-back last year was the back part. The out was sunny and warm, but as soon as we made that u-turn, we were going right into the breeze. I regretted dropping the last of my layers with my wife at the McDonald's all the way until we turned right on the World Drive off-ramp.

I was dumber. had dropped all clothing I could by MK excpet gloves. You know, north end of course with the wind the rest of the way. That thought process? I took my gloves off in the AK parking lot and carried the gloves through the out and back and dropped at the turn. Then once over the DHS bridge the wind tunnel effect killed my hands.

I saw people picking up other people's discarded clothing because they had dropped theirs and then they were cold again. :lmao:

I kept all my layers on for the half (except at the finish line when I lifted my arms up my windbreaker pants sorta slipped down - good thing I had a pair of running tights and a pair of shorts on under those!! For the full I kept most of my layers on until I got to backstage of AK and I ripped off the windbreaker pants and threw them on the side of the road and then took off my windbreaker jacket and gave it to my family in the parking lot of AK. Saw my family again right before the finish line and gave them my last jacket (which has become named my "old friend" since it kept me so warm during both races) I also had 2 blankets that I used but threw down before finishing - I know I had the blanket through the MK for the half since I am looking at a picture of me with Stitch and I have the blanket still wrapped around me. I think I might have ditched it by the golf courses. Not sure how long it was before I ditched the blanket during the full but I wanted to make sure I kept it long enough to not need it again - or have to pick up someone elses stuff like I mentioned above :scared1:

I ended up running for a few miles with a guy doing that. He had accidentally lost one of his gloves, so we tried to find him one that fit to replace it. Then, we made a game of trying to find him upgrades for the gloves. He started with cheap cotton ones and ended up with really nice fleece ones by the time we hit MK. :cool1:

This made me laugh out loud for real
