could we just get regular fast passes then swap when we get to the head of the line? ?? Why do we need a different kind of fastpass? Just wondering because I'd like to send my DH to get the fp while we wait for another ride but we all have go together for the baby swap fast pass (and thats not gonna happen with 2 grannies) . Anyone ever do this?

This is the way that it used to work before FP, but you can't do it now on height-restricted rides because they will not allow the too-small child into the ride queue.

If the grannies will not be riding at all they won't have to show up to get the FP's. Actually, the rest of you don't have to show up when he goes to get the FP's initially; they don't give out the swap passes at that point. You get the swap pass when you show up for the FP return time to actually enter the line. The CM checking FP's at the return queue rope gives them out.

You could certainly just get FP's and then each member of your group rides 1 time with their FP. (Someone would have to wait outside the ride with the young child.)
However, baby swap need not interfere with your FP plan. Here is an example from our last vacation. We were at AK, DD(then 4) and I went to get FP's for EE while DH and 2DS's rode Dinosaur. (DD was not tall enough for EE.) We met up in Dinoland and toured for a bit. When it was time to use our FP's we headed over to EE and told the CM at the FP line that we needed to do a child swap. She gave me a little piece of paper. DH an the 2 boys went on EE using their FP's while DD and I found a nice little place to sit and watch the ride. When they returned, DH and DD went to look around the gift shop while the 2 boys and I went on EE using my FP and the child swap. Whole thing took less than 20min. and the boys got back to back rides while the standby line was 40 min.
Moral of my long winded story: You do not need to get the child swap at the same time you get FP's. One has nothing to do with the other. Also, using a child swap will allow the waiting adult to take someone (generally up to 3 people) on the ride with them and is a huge perk for older siblings.

wow, i didnt know you cant take the smaller child in the queue , so what if you dont get fast passes at all, you just wait in line and want to child swap, can you stand in line then?

Yes, you can use Fast Pass instead of Babyswap (RS or rider switch) if you like. We do this with rides my dd is tall enough for but can't/won't ride since we can't get a RS pass in that case. Just get a FP for everyone who wants to ride and take turns.

However there are a few advantages to using RS instead of FP especially if you ride standby. If you use the standby line you only have to wait once, the first party waits standby and the second party uses the RS pass via the FP line. With RS the parent riding second dosen't have to ride alone since the RS pass is good for up to three people and its good all day (sometimes for a few days). If you have a child who does meet the height restriction and one who doesn't the one who is tall enough gets to ride with both mom and dad!

Just fyi the grannies don't necessariy have to be present to get the rider swap pass but the child who doesen't meet the height restriction does. This is just so the CM's can make sure your eligible for the rider switch pass.

So dh can run ahead and get all the FP's for the first party to ride.

When the return time rolls around or if you decode to ride via standby that is when you get the RS pass. Once the CM sees the child who isn't tall enough the parent riding second can take the non riding child to do something else while the first party rides. Then the second party can return and ride via the FP line with the RS pass anytime that day.

Honestly, its easier to use than to explain :)

No, if the child doesn't meet the height restriction he/she won't be allowed in line at all.

Don't worry though, if your riding standby you get the RS pass when the first party gets in line. Just tell the CM at the entrance you want to baby swap and they will give you the RS pass for the second parent to use later. Then the second parent can take the child who can't ride off to do something else and return to the ride later via the FP line with the RS pass.

Just to clarify for those planning, the Rider Swap pass is good for a total of three people. So in theory you didn't need your FP when you rode with your sons, the RS pass was enough.

ahh !! thank you all!! I dont know why I cant wrap my brain around this one!! Ok , So My dh could take dd 2 ( definitly not tall enough) to go pick up a baby swap fast pass for all of us? (total 6 including dd2 ), we wouldnt all have to be there?

Well, no. What the pass does is it lets the person waiting with the little one go without waiting for ages.

So the people who want to ride first, along with the person waiting with baby and the baby, go to teh CM with the rider switch passes, so they can see the little one. Then let's assume it's you who are waiting, you and baby go back once the CM sees baby and gives out the pass. Hubby and his co-riders go through the line, then when they are done, they come outside and hand you the pass. You can take one or two (can't remember which) other people (even someone who just got off the ride) with that pass, and go through the line the CM tells you to (shorter line), and ride without each group waiting in the full line.

No not quite, there would have to be at least two adults who can ride and at least one child who can't ride present to get the pass, to show you have a need to switch. You also don't get the RS pass until you are at the attraction ready for the first party to ride, via FP or standby. You will get only one switch pass per party, good for up to three people.

The purpose of Rider switch (baby swap) to try and eliminate a double wait for the second parent, so in theory all but three can rdie the first time through and then three can return through the second time.

Good point!

2 separate things. FP's are given out by machines using the park tickets. Use them to avoid waiting in the stand by line. One person can get FP's for everyone if they have their tickets.

Baby swap passes are given out by CM's at the ride entrance. You only get 1 and the child must be present. You can use them in conjunction with the regular stand-by line, but we always get FP's as well because it saves considerable time. (Unless, of course, there is no line.)

IMHO- The best way to deal with this is to send DH for the FP's as you were planning. When it is time to ride, everyone will have to make their way over anyway. Then you can get the baby swap from a CM. The wait for your little one will be very minimal since you will have the FP's. I hope I'm making sense.:confused3

We didn't bother getting child-swap tickets when we had a fastpass for the ride. DH would go in with his fastpass while I waited with DD. Then when he came out we'd switch. Often, they send the second rider through the fastpass line when you get a child-swap ticket anyway.

We usually get fast passes too, but the advantage to the swap pass for us was that we have 2 kids, one who rides, one too small to ride, and too young for a park ticket. Therefore, you can get only fastpasses for 3, which means when DH and DS ride a ride like BTMRR, I take DD to a little playarea, but then when they are done, I would have to ride BTMRR alone. so, we still get fastpasses, then when it is our time, we go to the CM with everyone and request the child swap pass. I get a card which I hold while DH and DS ride. Then, when they are done, DH stays with DD and DS can go back iand ride again with me. DS feels special by getting to ride everything twice:cool1:
