I go absolutely *CRAZY* if I'm somewhere that either I don't have a way of reaching someone, or they can't reach me. Not so bad if it's on vacation, but when I'm at home if the phone goes out, or if I'm driving around and forgot my cell phone, it's worse than not having a watch for the day. I like to be able to be reached at all times in case of an emergency, or be able to reach someone else at all times (or at least be able to try). I hate letting the phone ring for more than 2 rings, I *have* to answer it (unless it's "unknown caller" -- can't wait for call intercept to come to our area  ).

DH on the other hand wouldn't be happier if phones, email, etc just disappeared off the face of the earth entirely. He does *not* like to be bothered by non-emergency calls and if it weren't for me, honestly wouldn't care if we got rid of the phone entirely at home. It doesn't bother him at all to forget his cell phone or pager, and it's not unusal for him to ignore the phone entirely, even when he knows who is calling (sometimes *especially* when he knows who is calling ;) )

I guess between the two of us, we have a happy medium. ;) (Except for when I'm trying to reach him  )

How are you about phones or other ways of contacting you?

I'm more like your DH. I have my cell phone in my vehicle, but rarely use it. I like to have it in case of an emergency like the car breaks down on the freeway or something but I don't have it to use on a daily, or hourly, basis. If I go shopping at the mall for the day I don't take the phone with me, it stays in the car. I could easily handle not having a phone in the house. I love days when it doesn't ring ALL DAY!! I have never been one to spend hours yakking away on the phone, and I absolutely HATE it when it rings and interupts my very important afternoon NAP!! :D

I rarely answer my phone at home. I figure if its important enough, people will leave a message.

I do keep my cell phone on and unless I am in a meeting at work, always answer it. Its usually Dan calling though. :teeth: DH rarely calls me on the phone, since he doesn't have an office job he only calls me if he absolutely needs to get in touch with me, which is rare.

NO!! I only keep my cell phone on when the kids are in school and I'm out doing something, that's the only time I keep it on, other than that leave me a message at home and I will get back to you when I get home, I only use the cell phone for emergencies. I took it to discon and kept it on and believe me I'm sorry I took it, I'm never taking it on vacation again!

Always have my cell phone and always on. Rarely will I not answer it. As far as the home phone, I rarely ever answer it. It is never for me (if people want me they call my cell). We have a four slot voice mail on the home phone and it is best for whoever to leave their own personal message for whomever they are looking for.

I keep mine on and with me for work, but otherwise I'm like your DH, though maybe not QUITE as extreme.

I like being able to either contact someone or to be contacted for emergencies, but don't like to be bugged if its not an emergency.

I want my kids to be able to reach me anytime.

I keep my cell phone on all the time (except when I am sleeping as if it is an emergency they can call me at home) as I like to be reached and like the ability to reach other. My DH on the other hand hates pagers & cell phones. That drives me crazy because there were times I was worried to death about where he was and I had no way of reaching him. I wish he'd get a cell phone but he doesn't want one.

I am more like you with regards to the cell phone. My cell phone stopped working Thursday night when I was out with my friends and I freaked out - I had no way of getting in touch with my parents - the pay phone was broken! I always have my cell phone on - I like to be able to stay in contact with my parents, sister, and friends at all times. (Or at least, most of the time...)

But when I am home, I hate answering the phone. It is usually for my mom or dad (my friends call my cell or talk to me on AIM) and when it is for my mom, they assume I am her and start talking...it is so annoying.

No, I hate to be so accessible!!!!!!! Since I am not the President of the United States, I really don't think that everybody needs to be able to get a hold of me at every moment of the day. Drives me nuts!!!!

One here for being unreachable. I have a cell phone basically for emergencies only. I never turn it on. If someone calls home, they can leave a message and I'll get back to them. Sheesh! Most of the time the recorder is on at home and I don't answer. LOL!

I am like you Rajah...I have to be reachable. I also have to answer the phone, unless caller id shows it is a telemarket call. I know individuals can leave messages, but if it is an emergency I want to be able to ask questions and make sure I can get to where the emergency is. I have this fear that either they will not leave a message and call the next person or they won't leave enough information for me. Too many 'emergencies' have happened in my life. Now with my Mom going through chemo, I jump when the phone rings in the middle of the night....it is usually a sibling:rolleyes: , they have a funny sense of humor.

I have 2 small kids and I have to be reachable. Having said that, we have caller id on our phones, so if I am in the middle of taking care of the kids, cooking and I can see who is calling, I am not opposed to letting it go to the answering machine and calling the person back.

Yes! I always have my cell phone on me...or the laptop on. Anyone can reach me anywhere anytime.

It drives me mad to be somewhere without my "connection"...LOL

If I'm away from my family, I like to feel connected. I always have my cell phone with me and on. I'm also connected to the office 24/7 by a pager, but I don't get paged all that often.

That being said, I don't usually answer my phone when I'm at home. I have enough of that at work!
