Does anyone have any experience with Inspired Diagnostics PCR covid test and process (how long nasal swab is; how Zoom call goes during test) or if an online demo video exists?

I watched a video of a local pharmacy drive through PCR test and the nasal swabs were MUCH shorter than the long PCR I have had before and it was minimally inserted into nose only about an inch and swirled around. So considering the local pharmacy to make the kids testing more comfortable but may go with Inspired Diagnostics if is similar. Thanks!

Some good feedback for the embarkation PCR test for those who have children under 12 years of age. I was concerned that our 5 and 6 year old would need to take the long swab that goes way back in the nose. I received the below email from Inspire Diagnostics regarding their at home test kit AND the testing at embarkation. So the PCR test will not be the uncomfortable invasive long swab!!

“Thank you for reaching out. We apologize for the delay in response. For our PCR home kits, the swab is used to insert about one inch. This is also the case for the NAAT tests at port. These are not the more invasive sinus swabs.”

Do we know if parents will be able to do the swab on kids rather than a staff member?

This is good to know. I am still on the fence if we should just do CVS, our pediatrician, or Inspire for our son.

Has anyone ordered the Inspired test kit? Hoping someone from the Aug 9th sailing is doing this test and can post their experience.

I've only done Walgreen's locally (DC area). I've done PCR and also the Rapid ID (NAAT). Both were done by me in my car at the drive-thru window. There I'm guessing you could do it for your child (and I believe I witnessed this happening in the car in front of me--dad got out went around to passenger seat opened door--I'm assuming he performed the swab on a child).

My recommendation is if DCL will accept a NAAT test, then do it. It took about an hour for results. PCR tests are more of a nail biter. Myself and two friends took the PCR test at three different walgreens (all use the same lab). One got test results in about 24 hours, one in less than 48 and me in about 60 hours.

I just got my home kit from Inspire Diagnostics yesterday. It is a very simple kit. I confirmed with Inspire Diagnostics that you just do it yourself (no Zoom call or anything). They recommend you take it on day 5 and drop off same day to UPS to avoid any delays. They provided an overnight UPS bag. Once processed they will upload to the Safe Passage website automatically, but you will also get an email with results to bring with you if you want (recommended). I attached some pictures of the paperwork.

Awesome info thank you!

FYI to those going on future sailings; I just checked to see if I could still order an Inspire kit (6 days until sailing) and the safe passage website will not let me. Last date to order the kit is 8 days from sail date and then after that they will not give you the home Covid test option.

My only concern is getting a false positive or an invalid result and then having 3 days until we have to be at the port... Would they accept a second test from a provider or even testing at the port as well?

I have this concern as well, although from what I have read a false positive with a PCR test is supposed to be very rare. I doubt they would accept a 2nd test, once they see "positive" they will likely prevent someone from cruising, even if they provide a 2nd "negative" test.

I am even more concerned if we do the Inspire test and then it gets delayed, lost, or damaged in the mail returning to them for verification. Will they let us do one at the port instead? I have sent them an email asking about some of these scenarios. Still on the fence about which testing route to go.

How much does that kit cost? Thanks

From disneycruise.com:
Guests may obtain their PCR test from any independent testing provider or, for Guests residing in the United States, they may purchase a PCR testing kit directly from Inspire Diagnostics at a cost of $98.33 per test (which includes a 3.5% processing fee). Guests who are fully vaccinated may choose to provide proof of vaccination instead of undergoing pre-trip COVID-19 testing.

How well have your kids handled the testing? Is doing it yourself (Inspire) better than going in somewhere?

We did Walgreens and the kids did so good and the idea of testing my kids was one of the biggest road blocks for me in deciding to cruise. The swab is not the kind that goes far back in your nose (neither is the covid test at the port!). We did the test in the car and I swabbed the kids myself.

For those that got the Inspire kit, do you pay for it when you order it, or when you return it? Trying to decide if I order one just in case, but if we end up not using it, do we still pay?

This information was shared with TA's this morning:

As you are aware, due to recently updated technical guidance from the CDC, Guests 11 years of age and younger are not required to be vaccinated but must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test result (paid for by the Guest) taken between 3 days and 24 hours before their sail date. The test should be a rapid PCR test or lab-based PCR test. Rapid antigen tests will not be accepted.

For Guests who express concerns on the timing of the test or have questions about any alternative options, the following three (3) options for pre-cruise PCR COVID-19 testing can be provided:

Option 1 (NEW!): Guests may use the Safe Passage website to purchase and schedule a pre-trip test to be performed at a testing location in Central Florida, 1-3 days before their sail date.

Beginning Sept. 13, 2021, Guests may use the Safe Passage website to purchase and schedule a pre-trip test to be performed at a testing site in Central Florida, performed 1-3 days before their sail date. The cost is US $98.33 per test (which includes a 3.5% processing fee).

Testing locations will be set up at the Orlando International Airport and at the Radisson Resort in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

The Orlando International Airport Testing Location will be open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., 7 days a week.

The Cape Canaveral Radisson Resort, near Port Canaveral, will be open 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., 7 days a week.

Results take 24-48 hours to process and will be sent to the email address provided during the registration on the Safe Passage website.

Guests who completed an at-home test kit, but did not mail it to Inspire via UPS, can drop off their completed test sample at one of the onsite testing locations in Central Florida.

Option 2: Guests residing in the United States may purchase a pre-trip, at-home PCR test directly from the Safe Passage website by Inspire Diagnostics.

Guests residing in the United States may purchase an at-home PCR testing kit directly from the Safe Passage website by Inspire Diagnostics at a cost of US $98.33 per test (which includes a 3.5% processing fee).

Test kits must be administered and mailed back to Inspire Diagnostics exactly 3 days before the sail date and mailed using the pre-paid UPS envelope included with the kit.

Guests must drop the envelope at an official UPS drop box or at a UPS store location. Guests must not use a “UPS Access Point” for shipment, which are drop boxes located at a retail outlet such as pharmacy, grocery store or gas station.

Results will be available 24 to 48 hours from the time the sample is received by Inspire Diagnostics and will be sent to the email address provided during registration on the Safe Passage website.

Guests who completed an at-home test kit, but did not mail it to Inspire via UPS, can drop off their completed test sample at one of our onsite testing locations in Central Florida located at the Orlando International Airport and at the Radisson Resort in Cape Canaveral.

Option 3: Guests may obtain their PCR test from any independent testing provider.

Guests may obtain their PCR test from any independent testing provider. When selecting an independent testing provider, Guests should choose a provider with the fastest processing time, as the window for testing and submitting test results is between 3 days and 24 hours prior to their sailing. If the Guests is submitting their test sample to an independent provider by mail, overnight mail is recommended.

Additionally, the following is an update on how old a child must be in order to sail with a negative COVID-19 PCR test:

Guests who turn 12 within 5 weeks of embarkation are permitted to sail but will be required to follow testing protocols, which include providing proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test result (paid for by the Guest) taken between 3 days and 24 hours before their sail date. This test should be a rapid PCR test or lab-based PCR test. Rapid antigen tests will not be accepted. Additionally, they will also be required to take a COVID 19 test administered by Inspire Diagnostics at the terminal before boarding, per recently updated CDC guidance.

^^^This is the first official bit I've heard for those falling in this zone...! Good to know!

Sailing on the Fantasy the 18th so tested my daughter yesterday the 15th at CVS, they said 1-3 days for results so we are a little nervous we wont get the results in time. The 3 day window with results due 1 days before only gives you 2 days to get tested and get results. Hopefully we will get results tonight or early tomorrow as we fly out in the afternoon for Orlando. I guess 24 hours before requirement is based on ship sail time of 3:45pm, so I have until 3:45 tomorrow to upload results. Fingers crossed.
