Hey folks,

I was just reading ZW's update on her stepmom's cancer treatment/prognosis.

I just wanted to remind everyone who is able and feels like they want to help, that the American Red Cross is ALWAYS looking for blood doners.

My DH goes once a month to donate platelets, and has been doing this for about 5 years now. I donate whole blood as often as I can (my veins don't like the length of time it takes to give platelets).

So, if you can, and are able, go donate a pint or so! There are so many that appreciate it!

Thanks Deb for this reminder... according to the rules, I am unable to give, but I agree... if you can then do it :)

Great thread! Giving blood is easy, and it's such a necessity. If you need more incentive, think of it this way: you get to lie down for a while and relax, and then you get free snacks and juice! Pretty sweet deal! ;)

In addition to the Red Cross blood drives, there is often a blood donor office at most hospitals.

Oh, I missed the update from Kim on her stepmom. I'll have to do a search, thanks for letting me know about that, debster.

And a great reminder! I just gave blood on Monday, the Red Cross comes to our office building - makes it convenient! :)

I have always donated every 8-10 weeks for years- until now that is:(
Apparantly my Thanksgiving cruise through the Caribbean makes me ineligible to donate for a year. I just got off the boat for about 2 hours in Aruba and the CDC considers it a malaria area so I am banned for donating.
I can't believe as many people take cruises to the Caribbean that they are wiped out of the donating pool. Bummer but I will be back at it in 7 months.

I've always wanted to give, but unfortunatly, weigh too little to do so :(

Great message Debbie.
