Inspired by the swingers thread (sort of)

Sure, it might apply to some but certainly not all. I've been to strip clubs, heck my cousin works at one but it still doesn't mean I want one down the street.

It's gotta be down the street from someones house. I'm reading this as it's ok as long as it's not down the street from your house...

Yep, that's what I'm saying, I won't deny it.

:shakes head: Wow. I don't even know what to say other than you just made my argument. Your neighborhood is too good for a strip club but other neighborhoods aren't. Wow. I actually hope they re-zone and build one. Wow.

Well Houston has gone around and around about having a "red light" district. Which would be near the downtown area, around all of the business'.

To me this would satisfy people on both sides.

There would be a place for it.

It would not be near your home, school, etc.

You're really that shocked by my answer? :rotfl: As I said in previous posts I bought a home in a neighborhood where it won't happen and it's not because I feel I'm too good for them(again please see previous posts). But I have a feeling you're only reading what you want to but that's OK. :rotfl:

I have to add I don't understand how not wanting something in your backyard means you think you're too good for it, that doesn't really make any sense.

I'm not reading what I want into it. My impression that you're too good for it was formed by you saying you bought in a neighborhood that won't allow them. Good for you. They'll go in someone elses neighborhood. They aren't good enough to not have them. That's what I'm reading from it.

:rotfl: Ok, sure whatever you say Captain. ;) But you're wrong about me.

hmm..I wonder how many of these venal ventures--as well as civic projects, ie half way houses, group homes, highway widenings etc--ever end up in say, the neighborhoods of congressmen & legislators, & the ultra-rich?

so those with something to protect are the less powerful & are too busy working to be able to engage in long term hanging out 12 hrs a day picketing & working up legal strategies, let alone financing, to fend off the vultures & over-developers-
the well heeled can look down with disdain on all the nimbys, removing themselves from such selfishly motivated masses
red light districting is the way to go--

They do in Alabama. Come to Alabama and set your clocks back 50 years. We have no state lotto, no gambling, except bingo and dog racing. It is illegal to sell adult toys in this state, not to own them, just to sell them, figure that one out. :confused3 There are still dry counties. I could go on, but I think you get the idea.

And it wasn't untill 2000 that they finally repealed the law against biracial marriages, and it didn't pass by a very large margin. Not very many open minds down here. Shoot, they're still fighting the Civil War, change that, it was "the war of northern aggression".
:earseek: Wow, I'm sure that Alabama is a lovely place but it doesn't sound like any place I could ever live in. Way too strict. No offense to anyone.

Last night when I logged off their were no replies to this thread yet. I guess it picked up a little. It will be really interesting to see what happens when this club finally does open here. I'm glad it's opening. This "small town, holier than thou" attitude that seems common around here sometimes really gets to me.

DH was saying a few people at his work were mentioning how they were against it and neither he nor I get it. It's not the end of the world people. And, I too, wonder how many of those initially protesting will be the first ones in the door? I guess I'll never see why some people are so dead set against them. :confused3 Oh well.

What do the people who have a problem with strip clubs being in their neighborhood think would happen?

There are some respectable/big named ones. I guess that's in the bigger cities though.

I've never seen one in a suburban neighborhood.

I don't want one anywhere near my house nor anyone else's house but that is being unrealistic because strip clubs are very popular places. We only have 2 between here & Knoxville and they are trashy places.

Call me a prude, but I think these places bring down our society in so many ways: drugs, diseases, etc.

Not everyone who works in or goes to a strip bar is a disease ridden druggie!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

If you insist...

That's total hogwash IMO. As someone who thinks we should also legalize prostitution, I admit I've far way from where you are at on the subject but the facts remain, and the facts don't support the outrage against these places.

I agree. I'm just wondering of all these people that make accusations of drug use and disease and the like, how many have actually been inside one? You just can't make a statment like that without having the knowledge to back it up.

Generally speaking, the number of strip clubs varies inversely with average local income (in other words, the poorer your town, the more strip clubs you have) and the rate of people who self-identify as "conservative" also varies inversely with average local income (see that on the grand scale by comparing 2004 Red state income to Blue). Figure that one out! ;)
:confused3
Of course you will find more strip clubs in the poorer towns; my very liberal and well-to-do town wouldn't let a chain store to open up let alone a strip club.

Let's be honest, don't most of us disrobe every night? Just imagine what must be happening in all of our neighborhoods :earboy2:
