if you have both a cell and land line, why are you keeping both? I did until I moved, and then I just never had the landline hooked up. Truthfully, I don't miss it. A lot less telemarketers.:hippie:

Where I live, there is little to no cell reception in the basement (where our TV and computer are) and the reception is pretty poor throughout the rest of the house, so to do away with our landlines means we would have to go outside on the deck to make calls. Now, for you, Miss LucyStorm, that would not be bad, but for us, it would be VERY chilly at times. :lmao:

Because I don't give everyone my cell number. There are some people who just don't need it. :thumbsup2

My husband and I have to be reached at crazy hours of the day and night and sometimes the cell just drops out so we need the house line. I also work from home alot and rather not give my cell number out to hundreds of people.

We thought about going strictly cell when we moved into our house, but at the time we had direct tv for which we needed a landline. Luckily we didn't ditch the landline, because a year later we wound up ditching the cell in favor of one of those pay as you go plans (Virgin). We have cable now so things have flipped back around!

Our cell phones don't get hardly any reception inside our apartment. :headache:

Also, my husband needs to be able to call home to Australia, and cell phones aren't a great way to do that. We are thinking about getting Vonage, though.

because I find talking on a cell phone annoying.

Same here ::yes::

I agree. I reserve my cell # for close friends and family, so I don't have a zillion messages to sort through when I screen my calls. :lmao:

I thought having cell phones and landlines was overkill, but now they are a bit of a necessity for us. My partner and I each have a cell. We also have a land line at home. We get unlimited long distance on the LL and we use it for faxes. Now that I own my own business, I use the cell phone when I'm not at the store. But at the store I have 2 phone lines. One for business calls and one for fax and dsl. I never thought I'd have this many phones. Oops, there goes the fax machine now.

I don't like talking on the cell phone for more then a few minutes.
Plus the reception isn't good for the cell.

Cell phones will not give a 911 operator your address. Especially with young children at home, there is no way I would be comfortable not having that capability in an emergency.

I have received 4 calls in the last 60 minutes urging me to vote for various candidates in tomorrow's municipal general election. I am seriously reconsidering having the darn line.

Stop calling me!!!!

With the amount of time I spend on the phone with family and friends it would be way too much to use my cell phone only. So we have our land line which is now bundled into our internet/cable pacakge. We pay just as much now for the cable, phone and interenet as we did for just internet and cable. I like being able to use both.

I can't chat on my cell phone the way I do on my land line - it's too hard to keep my cell tucked under my ear and have both hands free. I can do that with my land line phone.

We get spotty inside reception inside on our cell phones, too.

I'd never want all the people who call me at home to have my cell number. At home I can screen calls and no one is disturbed if the phone rings and I don't answer it. If I were out shopping, I would have to remember to set it to vibrate or watch it and let it ring - much too annoying!

I have teenagers, need I say more! I would go broke if we only used cellphones because between them they can spend hours on the phone!

This is the main reason my DH said to keep our landline.

In addition, what others said, I don't give my cell phone number out except to people that "need" it.

Who wants those annoying telemarkers calling their cell phone?

911 calls take forever during emergencies because there has to be a "secure" line to the operator. This can take from 30-60 seconds... I once had to do this while my sister was joking on a piece of pizza, and this was almost a life or death situation.

I learned my lesson once, and now have a land line for emergencies.

We live in a rural area and cell phones get a very weak signal in some spots in the house.
