Every Christmas morning, I put on the Carpenters Christmas CD and listen to "Little Altar Boy". The way Karen Carpenter sings that song, with so much feeling, is so moving to me.

Her style didn't appeal to me but she definitely had a lovely voice. Poor thing, I always think that what happened to her is so sad.

My sister and I saw the Carpenters at Warwick musical theatre in Rhode Island. It was either 1976 or 1977. I bought a program - it cost $2.00! They were and still are my favorite. I listen to them often. IMHO no one has a better voice than Karen did.

Growing up I knew a lot of people who claimed to 'know' her. I believe she grew up not far from us in Connecticut. The area was devastated upon her death. We only hear her on the radio this time of year.

She had a great voice. Its a shame her life was so sad, and that she died so young. What a waste.

Anorexia really wasn't talked about much publicly until she died, so I guess her death wasn't totally in vain.

Karen Carpenter was and will always be my favorite singer. I'm pretty sure I have every one of her songs and listen to them whenever I want to relax.

Karen had a quality in her voice that allowed her to sing the songs as they were written. Too many contemporary singers are doing little more that screaming out notes and, unfortunately, the younger generations think that's singing.

Fortunately, there are a number of younger singers who will keep good music alive. Renee Olstead comes to mind.
