Inspired by "teachers comment to DD"

I am taking DD out early to go to WDW for the weekend. She will be late on Monday too because we are flying back then.

Just be honest and no one can say a thing. Mine will wait until the following week so no problems there. :)

Can you make it an educational trip? Have them add up the cost of a ticket, a bucket of popcorn, and a small soda and write it down for their teacher. Also, there are words all over those theatre posters. Make them read them while you are waiting in line. Just imagine how much their imaginations are growing by thinking about flying a broom around a dragon. That surely is just as important as memorizing the major exports of Latin America!

I take mine out on Wednesdays during the winter to go skiing. Usually 4-5 times from december to April. When I call- its simply- DD9 and DD8 wont be in today, we're going to Okemo.....okay have fun blah blah..

They ALWAYS get their work done the night before, as their homework is the same every night....so nothing is turned in late...and they have flying progress reports and report cards- isnt hurting them a bit!

We call them personal days around this house!

I'm a REALLY bad mom!

I got two early release tickets for tomorrow and I'm not taking either one of the kids. :teeth:

Just DH and me.

Have fun!! If either of my kids had asked...I'd take them too. :goodvibes

I thought you were taking me? :guilty: :guilty:

;)

While we're having confessions, I didn't go to the Veteran's Day parade today and march with the rest of the band. I had to babysit because I didn't want to make my dad come in from hunting :teeth:

I am taking dd to the midnight show on Thursday and letting her miss school on Friday.

My turn to confess! All three of my kids have been taken out of school for vacations, personal days, and whatever. And...I'm a teacher!!!

Two of them are now college graduates, (and one has continued on to grad school). The youngest is in high school. They are all very bright kids, always made up any missed work, and we never had a problem with any of their teachers about absences.

When I was teaching, it didn't bother me AT ALL when parents took kids out for a few days here and there. I've always been a big believer in family time and experiencing life outside of school. I look at every vacation as a learning experience.

Just last week, DD15 missed three days of school because we flew across country to attend a family wedding. She was only planning on missing two days, but we flew in late, hit a lot of traffic, and didn't get home until after midnight. So, she missed the following day because I let her sleep in. And, her teachers were very understanding. :)

Do it while you can and while it's easy.... the lower grades! We've taken oldest DS out in high school and it was tough! Little DS, no problem! My 3rd graders usually don't have a problem making up work. One flew out today to go see the Notre Dame game. All he really missed was a Phonics Test, so I sent it with him and told his mom to just administer it over the weekend and have him turn it in Monday. From what I hear, most of my students get the work I send home done but quick! Usually before they head off for the trip!

Would it make you feel any better if I think about you while I'm there? :teeth:

I had to get up at the crack of dawn to go, though. The seating is first come, first serve after the press gets in, so not everyone with tickets will get in! At this point we'll get there an hour and a half early and I have no idea if we'll be too early or too late -- you never know what the other fans will do!

I am taking mine out of school next Tuesday to see the radio city christmas show!

I've taking my kids out of school for our WDW in 2002 & visist my brother in Texas in 2003. I took my DD then 9 out for a full week to go to England.

And what's worse I encourage my friends to take their kids out all the time. :earseek: Vacation can be just as important as grammar schhool for the day.

Mine are both Middle School! It won't be a problem for either of them. DS now wants to take his GF as well. Guess what? Her parents said yes!
