Inspired by Me! Do you have a Carbon Monoxide detector?

I live in FL. No basement(crawl space under the house), no furnace, all electric house, so I only have smoke detectors in the main building. However, I DO have one in the garage apartment, as that's where we would stay if we lost power and had to run the generator. I have a "tent" (open on the sides) to cover it outside in the yard, but still worry about the exhaust, as it has to be close enough to the building to run an extension cord.

Yes, we have one. We were almost killed by carbon monoxide in 1992,

Froglady, do you have an attached garage--another reason to have the detector?

We have one in the basement and one in the top level outside our bedrooms.

We have lots of smoke detectors in our house.

A few years ago I went to visit my mother and she had an old barely working smoke detector, which I replaced with a new hardwire with battery backup detector. Funny, considering I'm not the type to install anything around our house. I also installed a carbon monoxide detector at the same time.

No, it's a separate building. You go up an outside spiral staircase to get to the apartment. I keep an umbrella next to the door so my guests won't get soaked coming to the main house when it rains.

My old cow barn of a house is so drafty, even with new siding and windows, the carbon monoxide would never have a chance to build up! I have plenty of smoke detectors though.

We are like you except we have no garage. Is there any reason at all we should have one? I would get one if i thought we needed one. After the hurricane we ran our generator about 100 ft from the house. However hubby just bought a new generator that is diesel that he will permanently mount about 20 feet from the house. So do we need one?

I'm such a worrywart that I would get one but only install batteries and use it while running the generator, which is what I plan to do with mine. No one is in the apartment 95% of the time, so I have no need to use it until I'm running the generator.
