Inspired by flaps - What's worse, packrats or tossers?

What's worse? Living with a packrat or living with a tosser? I live with a tosser and it's so frustrating to go looking for something only to find out it's been thrown in the trash weeks ago. Just once I would just love to have to dig for what I'm looking for under piles of "stuff", rather than searching for something that is now the property of the city dump.

So, what do you live with and how do you deal with it?

Packrat--

I have a six month rule. If it isn't touched in six months, its out of here! I can't stand clutter..

I secretly throw out things when no one is looking.

I'm not sure what's worse, but I am definitely a packrat and it drives DH crazy.

I am a packrat and there are things everywhere, while my husband is a tosser...I think tossers cause when you need something, you can't find it cause it's been thrown away. If it was somewhere in the house, you will eventually be able to find it.

I'm a packrat and my spouse is a wee bit of a saver but more of a tosser.

We live in relative harmony with a little compromise and compassion: He doesn't throw away without asking first, and I don't kill him.

Oy! My ex is a packrat. Drives me nuts. Things that are broken, missing pieces, don't work quite right anymore, etc... doesn't matter. She'll hang onto it on the off chance that 23 years from now it'll come in handy Throw it all away! Everything she saved could be replaced for very little money. Why save it?

This week I've been helping my "packrat" mother clean out cabinets and drawers in her house that have run out of room. She had receipts in there from Xmas 1977! It was a nice walk down memory lane, if nothing else. There was also a drawer full of used wrapping paper, a lovely storage area full of old magazines that she insists she is going to read (Redbook 1990 was in there). There were old, worthless little Dollar store type trinkets in there too. I told her that if she was not going to have a garage sale, we need to toss it! It was painful for her, but she now has tons of space she didn't realize she could use.

Every six months or so, I go through things in my house and if I have no use for it, out it goes!

DW is a packrat and I am a tosser. After 27 years of marriage, we've managed to reach a tentative truce. If she hasn't touched/used it in over a year, it goes into my "TOSS" pile. She can recover it, if she can use it at least twice before the next garbage pick-up.

Amazingly, this year for our anniversary, she gave me the best present of all -- a voluntary purge of our "clutter closet"!

I think a little of both! LOL I can be a packrat, but I"m also a tosser. I've gotten more on the tosser end over the last few years though! I like to hold on to things, but I also hate clutter (and we have tons of it!) .

I am a pack rat so I am going to say pack rats are worse as I aspire to be a tosser.

I'm a little of both. I used to be a packrat, but since moving 3 times in 1 year, I'm turning into a tosser. The first thing I tossed was my husband (now ex-husband). I only live with dd now and she's too young to know what she'll turn into. I am missing a few DVDs that she might have tossed though.

Calling someone a tosser in England is equivalent to you in the US calling someone an a$$hole. That's the best comparison I can think of.

Dang, now I've got to get some cleaner and towels to wipe down my laptop. I just sprayed tea all over everything! Should have known better than to read your reply with my mouth full!!
