Inspired by Dec99....advice on my current Ebay problem please.

Almost a month ago I listed both Lenox Pieces...Cinderella and Prince Charming. When the auction ended the person who had won turned out to be from Canada. This was fine with me as long as she paid the shipping. So I contacted her and asked how she planned to pay and she told me she would get a money order in the mail to me. So as of today almost a month later I have gotten no money order. I emailed her for the first time 2 weeks after the auction ended and she said she would immediantly check on it and I should get the money order anyday. Well nothing....so I emailed her again a week later and told her I needed to know something and should I relist the item if she didn't plan on going through with it. She begged me not to relist and promised to find out what was wrong. Well the only reason I have taken this so far is because all of her feedback up until now is positive and I want to give her the benefit of the doubt. Well still no payment so I emailed her yesterday and told her she has had plenty of time to have the money order traced and to please let me know something as I was counting on the money to pay for something and had to go elsewhere to make up for not getting it and I would like to replace it. So far I have not heard back from her. What do you all think? How long should I let this go? Does anyone know how long it takes to trace a Western Union Money Order (which is what she claims to have sent.)
 
It should take less than a day to trace a money order. I would give her until Friday and then send an email to her and relist it. She has been given plenty of time and she should have responded to you by now regarding the track of the money order.
 
Less than a day huh...see that along with her feedback was why I was giving her the benefit of the doubt. I think your right, if she hasn't responded to me by tonight I will give her until Friday. I hate the thought of leaving negative feedback but this was over $200 dollars.
 
She would have gotten a receipt for the money order with the ID number for the money order on it. I would email her and ask her for that number and call Western Union to verify that there was in fact a money order issued. You (and she) can also verify (of course you know this) that the money order was not cashed.

It took me almost a month to get a refund on a money order that we lost in the mail, maybe that's what she is waiting for??? If she's waiting for the refund I would give her a little slack, but she should know by now that it was not cashed.

If she is worried about the lost MO being cashed, she can place a stop payment on it and issue you another one, while still waiting for the refund for the other one. She may not have an extra $200 laying around.

If she would simply tell me what Western Union says or give me the number and there actually is a money order then I will give her slack if she will just get back to me. I'm going to give her until tonight and email her and ask for the number on the money order. If she doesn't answer then I'm forced to do nothing but leave the negative feedback.
 
Exactly Beth. There is no reason that people can't make contact with the people they are doing business with. This was the whole catcher for me too. If you are going to sell something or you are going to bid on something and you have been notified by ebay that it was won don't you think it would be in the best interest of everyone to keep in contact? I have never had no one that hasn't been in contact with me through the whole process nor I with them. It has started with an email no longer than 2 days after the bid was won, then an email when I sent the payment and when they received it, an email when they mailed the item, and an email from me to them when I received the item.

This current experience has just amazed me and truly opened my eyes....I just never imagined.
 
Exactly! Like I said she has good feedback so I would have completly understood even if she was delayed in sending out the money order if she had just told me the truth and kept in touch. I'm a nice person...LOL....I understand that things happen just be up front with me! Thats all I ever asked!
 
Make sure you file a Non-Paying Bidder Alert and file to get a refund on the final value fee you paid. Ebay will refund that fee to you if the seller never paid. You simply file the NPB alert and wait 10 days for them to pay. If they don't pay, you request your fee be returned and they will refund it. No reason you should pay the FVF if the person never really bought it. Also, 3 NPB alerts on a buyer will get their account suspended so they can't do bad business with anyone else.

You only have 45 days to file though from the day the auction ended so I would do it RIGHT NOW if 45 days haven't passed. I would imagine the final value fee on $200 is quite a chunk of change that you could get returned to you.
 
I would file the non-paying bidder alert. Then if she still doesn't pay up, I would request the refund for the listing fees, relist and give her negative feedback.
 
Do keep in mind though, that the time for tracing a money order in Canada may be like ours. When you buy a postal money order here, you have to wait 30 days from the purchase date before you can trace it. We have to wait that long just to make sure it HAS had time to clear the U.S. banks out there. Then it may take 30 more days to be repaid if it hasn't already been cashed. Also, if she bought a Canadian money order, it can take forever to get here. Things can take forever to get here from there.
