My dad was in the Air Force, so we lived in lots of places. We lived in Japan a couple of times.
That picture of us kids was taken during what really I would describe as a festival parade. A lot of times they were at night because of the floats were lit really cool. I think it was taken in front of a store front, everything was all decorated up. My cousin even wore a Kimono.
One of the other things we attended was the Cherry Blossom Festival, and this pic of my brother and I was snapped just under some of the trees (which in bloom all over were just beautiful).
Yep, curly blonde on the right, that's me.

(look at that cooler my dad is holding. I think it's a Coleman.)
Mount Fuji!
A 'day' parade, this was a 'fertility' festival. The comment about the 'hook' is interesting - a lot of the floats were too tall to go under electrical wires so when the floats went under them, people walking next to the float would raise the wires up with that were too low. Can you see them doing that now? Can you imagine the fire hazard???
The base had a HUGE antenna array that was was visible from everywhere. It was so big, it was called an elephant cage. I can see why, but I don't think it woulda kept any elephants inside.
