I saw the other thread about highlighting a 5 yr olds hair and for some reason it made me think of those baby/toddler beauty pageants. I have seen those on tv, never IRL. I've never known what to make of those things. :confused3

On the one hand you have the moms who say the kids are having the time of their lives and are very happy. On the other hand I'm not sure how I feel about seeing a 4 year old in more make-up than me having to sit for hours on end while her hair is curled, teased, styled and sprayed.

I can barely get my 5 yr old twins to sit still long enough for me to braid their hair let alone a fancy "do" like they have. :rotfl2:

I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with these pageants and what they think of them. I know they tend to be more common in some states then others.

Once again, I have been asked to do hair for little girl's pageants and have said no thanks.
I have extremely strong negativecfeelings about the subject.

However, a client of mine just won a Miss Middle TN beauty pageant and I am thrilled for her. She's someone who could be anyone's DD and not fake and all that. She is very pretty and very talented. Yay! Kelly!! She'll complete in the Miss TN pageant this year.

It seems these are more common in the southern states. I wonder why? :confused3 They must not be all that bad or they wouldn't be so popular.

I just posted on the other thread about DD. We have been doing pageants since she was 6 months old. She loves it and it has been a really positive thing for us. We don't sit for hours to have hair and make-up done most of the time it is 15 minutes for make-up and maybe 20 for hair. Other times we also do modeling, talent shows, swimming, and soccer. I really wanted DD to have an activity when she was really little and this one for us has been great.

That's nice to hear a first hand account. Some of the stories I've heard sound like it's nothing short of torture! Actually my DD's hair is so curly that it takes us forever to comb it out in the morning so we probably don't spend too much less time that you do. :goodvibes
