I am really afraid of bed bugs and noticed that on one of the other threads that there was a problem at one of the Disney properties (DVC I think). I was wondering is there any way to find out if you have them before you actually get bitten. When I go to the hotel I usually pull off the sheets and look but on a piece on 20/20 they said that they hide. Are there any sprays that might work . I am thinking of RID which is used for lice(my husband will flip but I do not care) .

you need to look up info. they come out at night when you sleep and feed on you. they can be picked up in luggage in other hotels and appear to be coming from overseas. its disgusting. i read you can put the foots of beds in cups that have vasoline in them to keep them from crawling up the bed. not sure what else to do or look up. i'm sure disney will keep this quiet

Bedbugs hide during the day in crevices, such as the piping of the mattress edges, under the boxspring, in the carpet under the edges of the nightstands and even in the cracks in wall mouldings. So you are not likely to see them.

I've read that the best chance of spotting the problem is by looking for signs of past bitings... multiple tiny blood dot stains on the surfaces of the mattress and/or mattress pad. So lift the sheets and peek underneath. I understand that they're more likely to be evident near the head/foot of the mattress than in the center. HTH.

Thanks at least that is something to look for. I am a nut when it comes to this stuff. Last time I slept on the leather couch in the living room. I hate bugs of any sort and the thought that they are feeding on me at night disgusts me not to mention that I could bring them home in my luggage.

Look on the internet and it will tell you what to look for. One thing you can do is at night turn on a flashlight and you will see them. Also on the sides of the mattress they leave a rust colored stain. The sheets sometimes also have rust stains. They can hide behind picture frames. I freak out about it too but I just look for the signs and if I don't see anything then I don't worry about it.

Do you think taking a 'fogger" setting it off when you get your room, take an hour or so and go to a park, explore your resort, etc and then come back and leave your door open to air out the room will help? I am considering this but not sure if it would really help.

The fogger could disturb other guests because you know the chemical will seep under the doors and bother people like me that have allergies. You might smoke someone out if they decide to stay in their room for the day.

does anyone have any good links to this?? I meanI am now thinking that they could climb in eyes ears nose and mouth if you are asleep. This type of stuff used to happen at low budget hotels and now it is even at the best and as I said I am freaking.

I read an article in readers digest last year about bedbugs. Could you find the post that inspired this one and PM me or post it here? I am interested. I remember the article said to vacumn your luggage as soon as you get home and wash all your belongings.

Just go to the internet and punch in bed bugs and you will get a lot of info on a lot of different sites. You might try google.com also.

The OP said the original post reported bedbugs at a DVC.
Thats the link I wanted. I found nothing on blingo or google or msn that specifically pointed to one of the DVCs.

Here's a recent thread about bedbugs at a DVC resort (Wilderness Lodge). Frankly, I doubt they're more or less likely to appear at any particular hotel since they're not associated with cleanliness and they're so hard to eliminate once they move in. Maybe if a hotel caters to international tour business? I suppose that's true of many, many hotels in the Orlando area.

Thanks for digging up that thread. The one I was referring to was actually referring to the thread you dug up. When I read it I guess my first thought was of course the bed bugs but I just figured that if someone reported something as earth shattering as that then the reaction of managment would be a lot more concerned. I am going to check out bugclinic on line and if I see stains there is no way I am going to stay in a room.

Does anyone know if bed bugs is a health violation. I mean if you do not get any help from management is it something that a health inspector can be called in upon?

I too have just recently posted about this. I was at Pop from 6/5-6/11. The first three night I got bitten something terrible. I finally had them switch me out of that room On the 4th nite (which was first night in new room), my legs became so swollen, hard around area & hot that night manger called EMT for me! I should have requested to be moved the first night, but I wasn't thinking they came from the bed until I saw how each night I got more!
