Insp by "Strange Cell phone" conversation thread... I have a police scanner.

I bought a used police scanner a while back, off of ebay. And it was scanning when all of the sudden I was hearing, not a police call, but someone's phone conversation. I have NO IDEA whose conversation it was. I listened to it for like 3 minutes. It was quite funny, in a way. A woman was ripping into her husband about stuff not getting done around the house, and he was kind of a meek fellow.

I have never heard another phone conversation since. I do know that those frequencies are not available on newer scanners. But on older scanners -- I guess like this one -- it used to be quiote common to hear such stuff.

So..... would YOU have listened?

I would have listened until I realized it wasn't a police call, then turned it off or whatever to make it stop.

I've had my phone tap into another conversation before, if I stand in a certain spot in the house with a certain cordless phone, and someone in the next house down stands in a certain spot on a certain phone we'll tap into each others calls. it took me a few minutes to realize what I had done. lol

We've had a scanner for years, and I've always heard you could pick up your neighbor's cell phone calls, but it's never happened to us.

I'm not normally the nosey type, but I would love to hear what my freako next door neighbors talk about - unfortunately, they don't speak English, so I probably wouldn't understand anyway.

We used to be able to pick up our neighbor's cordless phone on our baby monitor. One night, I turned on the unit in our room before DH turned it on in DS's room.

I heard a conversation and realized it was my neighbor across the street. Right after that, my husband turned on the unit in DS's room and the other conversation was gone.

When I saw my neighbor the next day, I told her what happened and told her she might want to use a land line from now on. She was really thankful I let her know.

Ever since that happened, I make sure that I don't say anything I wouldn't care about other people hearing when I'm on the cordless phone!

I work in a hospital and years ago I overheard the conversaton between one of our doctors and one of our nurses when they were having a fling. A few weeks later at work I had to listen to her telling another co-worker how she believes she has better morals because she went to catholic school.

My sister was visiting and brought her baby monitor. We were talking in our living room and it picked up what I think was the signal to another monitor in the area. The mom was SCREAMING at the child and you could hear her hitting the child. It was awful! I had our neighbor, who is a cop, come over and listen and see if we could figure out where this was. No one on our street had a child that young. We never did find out who this lady was. It was really sad.
