This guy on Dr. Phil today only tips a quarter! So I got to wondering, how much SHOULD people tip for delivery????

Many moons ago when I was a pizza delivery person a good tip was 1.00 per delivery. I give 2.00.

The drivers locally do make regular wages including 50 cents per delivery extra for gas/car care. That doesn't sound like much but it adds up quickly. The tips are solely extras for them.

I usually tip around $3. If I have a big order (if DD has friends over) I usually tip more. I can't believe the guy who tips a quarter! That is almost worse than tipping nothing at all.

I usually round it up and add a buck or two. So it the total was $14.52, the guy would get $16.50. Or if it were $13.22, the guy would get $15.00.

I'm usually pretty generous with the pizza delivery people, especially at places we order from regularly. Our typical order is $16-18, so I just give them a $20 bill and let them keep the change.

we often order at work and our bill can be as much as $50, but because everyone contributes the least amount they can get away with, I often feel an idiot and give the poor boy $2 for $50 worth of food. But another girl at work thinks this is okay, because its not like a waiter who you should tip a percentage. Any thoughts on that?

i also hate when they pocket the change without asking. I demand that they give it to me. Its up to me to decide the tip, not them.

We also tip $2-$3 for a pizza. If it's always the same delivery person and we get to recognize them, we increase the amount.

Usually a buck or two. We're a small family, so we always have a small order.

there are 3 of us. we usually order a pizza and breadsticks or a stromboli and usually breadsticks. i usually tip $3-$5 depending on how fast they get it to me. last week we ordered pizza, guy on the phone said 45 mins. had it to me in 25- $5 tip. he was also very friendly so that helps.

Pizza/sub delivery is usually $3-$4.

Although one evening I ordered a pizza for just DS and myself (total price as about $12). I gave the delivery person a 20 and said "Just give me 5 back." Well, he told me that he didn't have *any* change on him. That made me a bit angry (he seemed to be *expecting* me to give him an $8 tip). So I took my 20 back and said, "What are you going to do about this?" It ended up that I hade a ten which I gave him. So not only did he not get a tip, but I didn't even pay enough for my pizza. Really burned me up and I called the pizza place to complain. I ordinarily tip well, but I can't stand it when a large tip is *expected.* I actually felt kinda guilty after the whole thing was over, but DH (who I called to tell about the whole thing) tried to make me realize that it was the delivery person's responsibilty to have change.

Typically $2-3 and some change, whatever rounds it up to an even dollar amount.

Wow! Now I feel like a cheapskate. I tip about 10%, which comes out to only $1.50 and maybe $3 if it's a big order. The people who deliver chinese food end up getting more than the pizza delivery folks.

I stopped ordering with my co-workers for this reason. We would order four or five pizzas and no one would chip in enough for a tip. At home it's usually between $2-$3.

Us, too. :)

It depends on the size of the order. I'd say tip averages 20 percent of order total.

In restaurants I tip 15-20% just for bringing the food from the kitchen to my table. I think that amount is pretty reasonable when they are bringing it all the way to my house.

That's a good point, Micca. I never thought of it that way.
