Insp by CanBeGrumpy--how clean is YOUR house?

My house is a disaster!

Living room: we have an enormous sofa that takes up 3/4 of the room and most of the sofa is piled with blankets and several of my school books and binders. The cocktail table is piled with more books and papers. More books sit on the floor between my chair and the table. The dog drags toys throughout the living room. Also kids books and toys.

Computer room: Books, books, books. A few toys, shoes & socks, coats, computer parts, office supplies. All over the place.

Kitchen: Not too terrible at the moment -- some dirty dishes in the sink, some dirty clothes in front of the washer/dryer.

Bedrooms: MESS! books, clothes, toys, papers, books, books, books! Books in the hallway, books everywhere.

It's all a little dusty, but I'll get it taken care of over Christmas break when I get some motivation. I might try to do something about the books too. :teeth:

Well right now mine isn't too bad.We just had a family cleanup. For about an hour everyone drops what they are doing and cleans. My house is in a constant state of chaos but it is okay. :)

Mine used to be in a state of C.H.A.O.S. (Can't Have Anybody Over Syndrome),but thanks to the FlyLady , it's not quite so bad anymore.

My house is a complete mess. The only time it gets clean is when the cleaning people come every other week. And then we all run around like chickens without a head the night before trying to pick up the clutter before the cleaning service comes. I don't vacuum, dust, clean the bathrooms or anything in between. We do however, of course wipe down the table and try to do the dishes everynight after dinner, and do a few laundry loads when it's feasible. I don't mean to sound like a slob, and I do have good intentions, but I am the only female in the house of 4 boys, (I'm including my DH and the baby) and they just don't see how it's necessary to clean or keep things picked up. I got tired of screaming and yelling, and burnt out of being stressed about it, so I just kind of gave up. Plus now with me working, we are lucky to have dinner everynight on the table. It's just so crazy around here, but I know that won't last forever, and my house will someday be clean once again!!! :)

FlyLady scares me. :scared:

Putting your shoes on every morning? Getting dressed?

That's just madness!

Are you the type to just straighten up, dust and vacuum and assume it's ok?

Or is everything within sight wiped down with Clorox wipes and Lysol'd on a daily/weekly/hourly basis?

Me...I just straighten up, dust and vacuum. Mop the floors in the kitchen and bathrooms about once a week and I don't Lyson/Clorox anything except my laundry. Gotta have those whites sparkly white ya know! :teeth:

Cleaned hourly. Almost as a OCD would do.

But we love it being clean. It makes us feel better so that is all that matters.

Has anybody come up with a way to get their slobby children and/or signifigant others to pick up after themselves? My house is in a constant state of clutter. I've tried telling them nicely, nagging, yelling, bribing and nothing has worked. I'm just about ready to start throwing their things away if I have to pick them up - and yes, that does include my bf's things too! I would love to hear any ideas that you have to get my family to pick up after themselves!

I changed my expectations.

It used to drive me crazy that my DH would leave his clothes and junk lying all over the place. I nagged and argued with him, but nothing worked. Then we went through a long separation. The house was spotless for nearly a year after he left, but I missed him so much and I even missed his mess! After we reconciled, my house went right back to being messy again, but I've never looked at it quite the same way again.

I live alone (well I have two cats that like to drag their toys all over), work 50 hr weeks and go to school full time so my house is in a constant state of disaster. Right now it's the bathroom (about to be cleaned) and the breakfast bar. After I get all these presents out of here it'll be better.

I grew up with someone whose house was a complete disaster (the health dept probably would have condemmed it if they saw inside) and that has probably skewed my perception of messy.

Same here. What's worse, my mom was a nurse, so she should have known better.
