Inside vs. Oceanview

If you are looking at the May 24th cruise, as you probably are aware they have the OGT prices right now at $1566 each for 9 nights. With the OGT that's a savings of $400 each at a minum of the regular fair. I would jump on that. And you are getting the OGT cheaper than you could get the cheapest inside room if there was no IGT, which there is a discount. But that is just me. Actually if was DW and I. we would opt for the VGT of $1900 each. This is $600 difference over a 9 night period. Do you see your self sitting in the room looking out the window while getting ready. Are you wanting to wake up in the morning and be able to look out and see without going to find the nearest window or outdoor space? I would do the verandah, but my parents wouldn't care about the scenery. An inside cabit would probably be just fine for them. If you are going to hit all the ports and stay all day, that would also reduce the time you are in your cabin. I don't know your finances, but I would rather you spend the money and upgrade and not say, I wish I would have. More than likely, unless you are fiancially well off, this is one of the only cruises you will take to Alaska. If you think you can't take a couple of excursions you want then do the inside, if not upgrade.

Throwing a wrench in everything, the VGT rooms just became available again after they had been sold out for a while, so I think we're going to splurge for the verandah. We've seen enough pictures at this point that I feel like it's worth it, especially since I don't know when we'll ever be able to make it back to Alaska.

Does anyone know what category the VGT rooms usually end up being in?

My wife and I are planning our first Disney Cruise to Alaska in May and are trying to decide between Inside and Oceanview staterooms. We know we definitely can't afford Verandah, but we're wondering if Oceanview is actually worth it (it's about an extra $600 above the cost of Inside). Anyone had personal experience and can offer up opinions? Thanks.

We have 9 DCL cruises, including one to Alaska. In general, we don't pay for an outside room nor verandah because we spend very little time in our room. Others spend a lot of time in their rooms, and it makes sense to have an exterior room.

We did have an outside room for Alaska. It had a full sized porthole. We still spent all of our scenery time on the top deck, either out on deck or from Outlook Café. Honestly, the porthole gives such a narrow field of view that it is like looking a picture of one tenth of the Grand Canyon instead of looking at the Canyon in person. The room window does not do justice to the majesty of Alaska.

If I could afford a verandah, I might do that. Note that I didn't. For inside vs outside, I personally would take the money and put it towards an awesome excursion.

VGT means a balcony! Don't worry about anything else unless you are just board. It could be as close to 7 days before the cruise before you find out. I would figure a 5 something just because there are more of these. I think it is the best money spent. I would do the exact same cruise if I could get cheap airfair. Another point can be the weather. Sometimes in Alaska is is cold or cool. On the upper deck you can get the crosswind where if you are on you balcony the wind MIGHT be blocked. People also complain of light in the room at night. It shouldn't be that bad in May. They have curtains over the door and a curtain between the bed and the balcony if you really want it dark. If you have never been to Alaska, there is nothing like it. Wake up in the morning, draw back the curtain and see....... I have traveled alot of the world and it is the most beautiful and untouched place ever.

Are you flying in? If so where to?

I would definitely recommend the porthole. I think someone else mentioned it but as we would get ready in the evenings for dinner it was nice to take in the scenery and we once even saw a whale from our verandah. I think you'd find the $$$ worth it for an Alaska cruise in particular but then again it's not my $$$ so easy for me to say ;)

We're booked in VGT! Thanks for the advice :)

We are flying into Seattle two days before the cruise and then taking a bus up to Vancouver the day before. I had miles, so my flight was free, and my wife's plane ticket was really cheap. I don't think we could have afforded the Verandah category if we were trying to fly into Vancouver. Those flights are expensive!

Now begins the actual planning stage as we make real travel plans instead of hypothetical ones. :thumbsup2

I prefer the inside. I wake up easily and with no annoying sunshine at 0600 I can sleep in!
