Inside Staterooms

So I just booked a 3-day cruise in September as a "Thank you" to my sis-in-law to be / maid of honor. We both need a break so I thought this would be nice.
I'm doing WDW in Oct. with dd and dn so I wanted to catch the Magic elsewhere.
I booked us an Inside Stateroom as we will not be spending tons of time there sooooooo
What are they like?
How come they can't give us a room number @ booking?
What are our upgrade chances???

Inside staterooms are very nice. Really the only difference is that they have a mirror where the porthole/window/verandah door would be. At least all the ones we have stayed in have.

They are very dark though when the lights are turned off. You have no natural clues as to what time of day it is.

We have always enjoyed our inside rooms. We don't spend much time in our cabin anyway so it works out just fine for us.

We always get a room number when we book our cruises. Did you maybe book a Guaranteed category room? Then they wouldn't assign a stateroom number till later.

We have been on 5 DCL cruises. We have been upgraded 3 times. We always book Cat 11, one upgrade to a Cat 8, one upgrade to a Cat 10 and the last one doesn't really count but we got upgraded to a Cat 9 because someone had smoked in our cabin the day before we boarded and it reeked, so they moved us. We have another cruise booked for Jan 2005, will we be upgraded ?????????????

The ship is booked to the point that DCL is no longer assigning cabins at the time of booking. They quit assigning cabin numbers once the ship gets booked to a certain percentage (but I don't know what that percentage is).

We booked our Sept. cruise about a month ago (thru DCL) and we were able to pick our cabin number. I called last week to see if we could change it, and they said I could not because the above.
