so we just got off the fantasy and my wife and I were thinking about leaving the kids behind and going for our anniversary on a 3 nighters we had a balcony so since it's just us we were thinking about saving some money for an inside room but never have been in one before. What's it like with the magic porthole does that simulate a sun rise? The whole lack of sun in the morning is the only concern. So please advise.

Here's our inside room on our Dream cruise

The virtual porthole can be turned on and off. If on at night you get (pretty much) a dark grey snow (like on a TV) until the sun comes up.

Here's our "porthole" in Nassau

And Castaway Cay

The virtual porthole displays real-time views via webcams depending where you are located on the ship (forward/mid/aft or starboard/port)

We have only stayed in insides and love the magical portholes, just always leave it turned on and you'll be good to go.

If you leave it on all night, it will show the outdoors.

I couldn't do that, because once it went to snow it felt just like leaving a TV on, and I can't stand that sound/feel. Grates my ears.

Why not just go for an oceanview, if you're worried about the lack of light? It's a good compromise.

There is no sound and if it's an aft view with a full moon, you can actually see the water reflection, it's quite pretty. It's not like a snowy TV at all.

You experienced no sound. I experienced the sound and feeling of a TV left on. I am highly sensitive to that. If someone else is as well, it's good for them to know it. It's a weird dizzy-making buzzing in the ears. I used to not be able to enter a "big box" electronics store because of the overwhelming feeling/sound of All Those TVs. I cannot sleep in a room with a TV on. (weird question to ask a newish boyfriend with thoughts towards permanence and not wanting to waste our time with the wrong person..."so just how important IS a TV in the room to you?"...but it had to be done.)

There was nothing but dark snowy fuzz the one evening we tried to leave it on. It was a dark and snowy TV (dark with tiny white blips all over the screen). We didn't have a full moon. It's nice that you did; we aren't all that lucky. Your experience was different than ours. :)

Ocean view is an option we are just not sure on what to do. For the 7 days it would not be a question we would go with balcony but just the 3 we could save some cash and use it for a cabana lol!!!

Just as an aside, your chances of getting a cabana if you're not platinum or concierge on the Dream class ships is somewhere between slim and none unless you are very, very lucky. I'd roll the dice on the outside room before I'd pin my hopes on the savings scoring me a cabana.

Oh wow I did not know last time and our first disney cruise we traveled with my parents who where concierge so they had one but that makes sense I only counted 30ish. Well that is good to know!!!
