Hello!

First Disney cruise and first family cruise. We have an inside cabin. Wish we would have done the balcony when we originally booked but now it's nearly $3000 more so that would be a no..

I'm looking for tips and tricks to keeping the room fresh during our 7 night cruise. I feel those with tween boys would understand where I am coming from... haha.

I'm getting some magnetic hooks and a pop up laundry hamper- and will plan to do laundry maybe halfway through. I'm just worried about with having wet swim stuff and clothes the room getting a little stale.

Does housekeeping come in everyday?

I think you’ll find you aren’t in the room as much as you may think. We found that showering and bathroom balance were more of a struggle than tidiness of the room. You may find you have overpacked and not use the majority of what you bring. So be conscious of what and how much you are taking as it’s amazing how little you REALLY need. Take advantage of under the bed storage for your bags, shoes, etc. Consider a central location for dirties and designate areas of the room/closet/drawers for each persons things. Utilize the cubbies by the mirror to place things as well as the bathroom. There are not a LOT of hangers but enough to hang up some of your shirts, pants, etc. to allow more space on the built in shelving in the closet. If you have the trunk in the room (table), you’ll find you can open that up and put stuff in there. So to utilize true space, consider brining some plastic hangers with you to expand the hanging space in the closet (uncertain how many are in your party but this may help regardless).

Yes, they come in daily. Usually twice a day. Morning and Evening (usually during or around the 5:45 dinnerish time).

We are doing a verandah for the first time this year so we’ve always only done an interior room of some sort. The one thing we are looking forward to is the ability to open the door for fresh air. I think you guys will be fine and you’ll make the space work as it is doable. Again, overpacking used to be a big issue for us and we’ve learned to scale back as our cruising ways have changed (to include all the dress up clothes not needed, etc.).

Have a great time and excited for you guys!

Ive done 3 cruises in an inside room, but I'm solo, so its a bit easier to keep tidy.

Things I always do
Store my large 4 wheel 50 pound case under the bed and unzipped. I use it during the cruise for dirty laundry. I use packing cubes, and as I wear clothes, each night before I go to bed, I pack things I wont wear again back into the packing cubes and keep them in the case under the bed.

Theres 2 permanent hooks on the wall beside the door to the bathroom. I use them for my pjs and my spa robe. I have my own spa robe which I use as a coverup when I use the pools.

I have an open flat cosmetic bag. I divide my cosmetics into two cosmetic purses. One has everything I use everyday, the other has things that I use a few times during the cruise. After I get ready in the morning, I put both of them back into the open flat cosmetic bag. and close it up. This way the desk area stays tidy.

I use packing cubes during the cruise to hold various bits and pieces, and before I leave in the morning, they all are stacked neatly in the corner of the desk area with the lie flat cosmetic bag.

I use the magnetic hooks I bring with me for my Disney Ears.

Look into poopouri and the closest public restrooms to keep your stateroom bathroom fresh. Hanging swim stuff with clothespins vs just throwing over the line seemed to dry them faster. We have deodorizing charcoal shoe inserts that we use at home and take on vacations. Plan on doing your makeup and hair at the desk vs in the bathroom.

Random tip: room stewards will frequently unplug USB hubs, so make sure it's plugged into the outlet when you plug a charging cable into a device.

First, pack half of what you think you need. You still won't wear it all. Leave electronics, other than phone, at home. You didn't pay for a cruise to have noses in a laptop/handheld.
Designate drawers/space for each person and don't let them out of the room until stuff is stowed. Under bed is your friend.
Make use of the showers in the spa/gym. When we used to travel with kids, I would get up, workout, shower and primp then meet family for breakfast.

Have fun and don't stress the little messes.

As a family of 4 we had an inside room when we went to Alaska. I would recommend night lights. It is very dark and the bathroom lights are really bright. We found we needed a nightlight to get to the bathroom in the middle of the night. In the wonder (not sure what other ships) there is a clothing line that can be pulled in the bathroom when the bathing suits were dripping We used this daily. I loved the magnetic hooks we used 4 each. 1 for our bathing suit (when it was not dripping and we needed the shower) 1 for our towel, 1 for our jacket (we were in Alaska) and a little one for our lanyard. Along with the pop up dirty clothes hamper I would recommend a few of the clothes detergent pods. The disney cruise ships charge quite a bit and I wish I had just grabbed a few. depending on if you would use all the hanging space, we did not have anything we needed hanged so I bought this hanging organizer. It made that extra hanging space usable for shoes and more clothes. Have fun you really do not spend much time in the room and an inside room is perfectly fine. We have another inside room booked next year.

1 for our bathing suit (when it was not dripping

Best way to keep it from dripping - and help it dry faster - is once you've rinsed it and rung it out, lay a towel on the floor, put the suit on the towel, roll it up like a jellyroll, then walk back and forth on the towel, flipping it 90 degrees after a couple of passes and walking on it again. That gets a LOT of the excess water off and prevents dripping.

An over the door shoe hanger used to be the way to go however DCL no longer allows the over the door type. If you can find one with a hanger as opposed to the door hooks, and hang that on the hook outside the bathroom door it is a huge help. I use it for stuff like sunscreen, vitamins, all sorts of small toiletries, sunglasses, etc... If you cannot find one with a hanger top and you are crafty/handy you can MacGyver one of the over the door types, with a regular clothes hanger. DH did that to my old one before I was able to find one with a legit hanger hook.

**Edited to add...I just looked on Amazon and they do have one with a hanger.

I have magnet hooks that I bring on every trip to hang on the doors for things like lanyards, robes and swim suits. I have hooks on the door where we hang our lanyards so you know to grab them on the way out of the room.
Motion activated night lights are a must for me. I always have them in my travel bag. As others have suggested the charcoal pods are fantastci. Amazon sells them that hang.
As others have said pack half of what you think you need. I am a hideous overpacker and each cruise I streamline it a bit more. I never wear all I bring and no one will judge you if they see you in the same shorts or shirt. I would wager they will never remember.

Pop up hamper-stored in closet for dirty clothes that you will launder, clothespins-for the shower to hang dry, magnetic hooks-robes, hats, lanyards jackets, and packing cubes. And pack a bit less- all things I do. I also unpack and hang, use the packing cubes in the drawers to stay organized and re-pack in the suitcase stored under the bed as we go along. . I don't like a messy cabin, so just a few moments each day to put away, hang and store goes a long way. Oh and night lights- we have USB rechargeable ones from Amazon-I bring them every trip.
