inquired about health insurance and lost my job

Just move on. File for unemployment and then focus on getting another job or the education to get another job. People spend way to much time worrying about whats fair and trying to get even. If they fired you for just asking about insurance then this may be a blessing you don't want to work for them.

As others have said, in an at will state you are pretty much out of luck. I work in medical billing and when we hire interns they are paid. One thing that will keep them from being offerer the full time at the end of their internship is not being a go getter. In our setting doing what you are told is not enough. We look for the person who does what they are told quickly and efficiently and then asks what's next. Not saying this is your situation, just telling how things work in our office.

I was working for over 8 months and inquired about insurance and that day was told I was let go of. Is this right ? no warning Was told everyone loved me was never late and did everything I was told to do.A friend of mine said I should contact a laywer What do you think?

I think that you were not fired because of asking about insurance. I think talking to an attorney would be a waste of your time. I think that you should move on and look for a new job.

No offense to poster but we're only hearing her side of the story. The employer might have totally different reasons for letting her go. There's her side, his side and the truth which is probably somewhere in the middle!

I am sorry you have lost your job.

In our area, I know many people are losing their jobs......the only reason is economic reasons for the company. They are eliminating or consolidating jobs all over. When the companies are feeling a financial crunch....someone has to go. Often people are let go if there is any "opportunity" to, in order to keep others within the company from not getting raises, hours, etc.

It really sucks and sadly I do not see much (in our area of the country) that is showing this country is coming out of a recession. In fact I see/know more and more people losing their jobs.

Your best next move is to apply for unemployment insurance and look for a new job asap. Many companies do not want to hire people who have been out of work for a long period of time, so I think the quicker the better you put yourself back out there.

Good luck.
God Bless.

I feel for you ... losing a job anytime for whatever reason is not an easy to process - situation. The company you were working for may have been considering the aspect of having to downsize due to economics. Your mentioning the prospect of getting Benefits might have been exactly at the wrong time. Myself ... I have been the squeaky wheel (draw attention) more than once.
