Just wondered if anyone has done the La Therapie Hydralift Facial at the spa? I'm considering doing this on our cruise and would like input!

Thanks,
Lisa :flower:

I had this facial on the Magic last week. If you've had a facial before, I would compare it to just a regular facial. The gal did a great job of cleansing my pores (which I needed badly!) and it was so nice and relaxing that I fell asleep a few times. But there is nothing very "special" about it. No aromatherapy or steam....

I've been on two DCL cruises and tried this treatment. I did and did not like it. It was less effective than what I get at nearby places.

Why does everyone go away to get spa treatments? If you have none near where you live or their not the best, then spend the extra $$$ to do it. But, if you have good spas near home, why not get it done just before your trip, so you look radiant for the trip and have more time to vacation instead of sitting, waiting and of course enjoying the treatment.

My dh does this, so I'm not flaming. I just don't understand it.

Again, I like a swedish or light peel facial over this one.

Also, the spa personnel have to meet a quota each week, so they try to sell you everything in the place. Some of the things are ok, but most are ineffective in helping rejuvenate skin, anti-aging, whitening, etc. Don't waste your money.

However, the rainforest membership for the week is well worth it.

Laurajean, I was just thinking the same thing. I did the facial because we don't have a spa nearby and I needed one...but also to "escape" the family! LOL
I always write on my health/info form "No Sales Please"....and they don't bother me.
What I found interesting was that on embarkation day, I broke a nail unpacking. When I called the spa to get it repaired, I was told I'd have to wait until Puerto Vallarta for an opening.
I figured out that meant that there were at least 28-30 women getting their nails done on the ship for double what it would cost at home! :confused3

Just - that is smart, putting "no sales" on your form. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, what was so important to those 30 woman that they couldn't run to the salon at home to get their nails and toes done prior to boarding. Isn't the first day or so, being on vacation. I love giving myself pedi's and I don't do my finger nails. I just don't understand the hype.

We have a salon here that charges $35 for a mani and pedi combined. Not bad. So why pay $50+ and lose an hour or so from your vacation????

For me I do it when I'm on a cruise because I two kids and it's hard to get away to do spa treatments, even though I do have great places by my house. I've had a gift certificate at one place for 10 months and can't get over there to use it. My DH travels a lot for work so I use babysitting for "important" things (yes, I'm important but the spa ranks low, if you know what I mean). So, for me, the cruise is perfect because the kids are occupied or Dad is available to help me. That's the long answer about why some people go away and do spa treatments.

I do appreciate the input though. My DH actually wants to get this one since he's never had a facial and he needs one badly! I might skip it and spend my money on something else.

Thanks,
Lisa :flower:

Thanks for the input, I think after reading this I am going to cancel my appointment. I have fabulous facials, when I can get to the spa, near me! They are more relaxing than massages.

Lisa,
I'm sorry. I forget now that my kids are in school what it was like when they were little, and I couldn't go anywhere! Major brain drain! Truly sorry....

RobinMarie, the facials and massages are nice and relaxing....it's a great "quiet time" on the ship. I just was saying that the quality of the actual treatment wasn't quite as good (especially for the $$) as what I can get here, or at a resort. Try it and decide for yourself. Maybe I'm just too picky or something.

I understand what you are saying, the facials I get here at home do have aromatherapy, music and steam though so it sounds like a better experience at home!

Thanks for your input!

Hi...just recently found this board - much more active than the usual place I visit.

The one thing that is great about the spa is the fact that so many people use it...my husband invested in Steiner stock and is up about 14% from where he started!

I think a lot of people who have never had a facial or spa treatment feel they should try it when they cruise. It's definitely not the same quality you can get at home where they hope you'll become a regular.
