What "deals" were given to akv and vgf for you guys?

Would it be worth buying the smallest and cheapest contract to just get a discount at the Poly?

They didn't offer anything. I think the only advantage was we could buy first. Since they don't seem to run out....no, I don't think that would be worth it.

Smallest contracts resale would be 25-50 points and those would be more expensive per point than larger resales. Smallest direct would be much larger for your initial DVC purchase.

To more precisely answer your question, for VGF there was a $5 pre-public offer discount to existing owners. No one knows if a similar offer will be made when VPR (PRV?) goes to sale.

In other words, no- buying a contract for the sole purpose of getting the member discount on VPR wouldn't be a great deal, unless you're planning on buying over 1,000 VPR points.

If you want to get the best possible price they will offer to DVC members for the Poly DVC why not just find a small resale contract for now? A member is a member no matter how you buy in. Only resale points have restrictions but they aren't THAT restricted.

FWIW they are currently offering some incentives on AKV direct but I think you have to buy a minimum of 100 points. Not enough to offset the savings you could get on the same resale contract.

Looks like 100 point contract = $800 off. No way is that a good deal.

With AKV there were better prices later on down the line although that was under different management and different economy.

VGF had a price $5 less than what it went on sale to the general public for but as was mentioned there is no certainty that will happen at the next resort. The price of buying and potentially selling a small contract would very likely negate any special offering they might possibly do.

For BLT, AKV, and SSR the first offer from Disney (i.e. the pre-construction sales) were NOT the best deals.

For BLT (the last DVCs built before VGF) the earliest buyers were current DVC members and they were given a name tag on the outdoor fountain, but their price was actually higher as they were not given any incentives or points as they were lucky to be considered founding members (a joke if you ask me) and the AKV were given a name on a tapestry.

Then the BEST deals were several months later on Black Friday (2011) that had something like a $20 discount and full years of points.

So, Disney used the early buyers to buy in first with almost zero discount. Of course, we don;t know what is going to happen with VGF or Poly, but I would assume the same pattern of discounts or loaded points will come 6-18 months after the first sales are offered.

Everyone with an April or later use year got 2013 points. It was really only February and March use years that got a raw deal.

And everyone gets a "free" year of points. The guides always make it sound like you're getting some kind of special deal, but it's standard policy. Everyone gets the points for the use year they're in, even if there's only a month left. And they'll let you bank those first year's points even if you're after the normal banking window.

I have never actually heard of anyone getting any actual "extra" points from Disney, even though lots of people persist in believing their guide got them a special favor. People always say, "But I got 2012 points in 2013," forgetting that they purchased in their 2012 use year, and thus got the same deal as everyone else.

Now, they have had incentives in the past where you got more points for your money at buy-in, but that's just another way of offering a discount on the initial price.

There were several offers in the past that included matching Developers points - they were free additional points in addition to the current UY points. We took advantage of that twice I believe. One time the points were restricted to SSR but the other time they were good at any resort.

This also was before guides started trying to tout current UY points as "free" points. Even when DVC first started using that in the sales pitch my guide said they would not do that as it wasn't correct. I had to give them props for that.

We paid $145 and got 2013 points with an August UY

You weren't totally wrong. As I recall, the developer point incentives were not available when the resort first went on sale.
