So I have a handful of points hanging around that are use or loose (I screwed up banking and borrowing-I'm a newbie), and it looks like I could try to add a studio for one Sat. night in Jan. on to our current vacation. We wouldn't mind having one room switch, since we would add it on to the Sat. before our BWV vacation starts.

I'm not sure how to rent points, do I just need to put a post in the rent/trade board that I would like to rent 2 or 3 points?

you can't "rent points" as such. you can only "rent" a reservation.

what you are looking for is a "transfer" - which can be difficult to find since you are only allowed one per year. but you can post a request for a small transfer on the rent/trade board and hope for the best. you never know.

(if you can still bank some of your pts, it may be easier to do that and either book the last night in cash by calling MS if there is availability or else trying to rent a reservation for that night from another DVC owner. you would have no control over the reservation and would not be able to call MS to make any adjustments to it.)

The problem w/that idea is that you cannot combine points (e.g., use 10 of yours and 3 of someone else's) for one night...

You could rent as many points as you need for that one night. Or you could see (use the R/T Board) if there's someone out there willing to use their one-time per use year transfer to transfer the few points you need into your contract. Or you can borrow enough points from next year to combine with those few left over points you have to get a one - night accommodation. Or you can try to rent or transfer your few remaining points (if they're not enough to reserve a villa somewhere, tho, you won't be able to rent them...but there may be someone out there who could use them as a transfer...just be aware that you are restricted to one transfer--in or out--per use year)...

But unfortunately, you cannot combine points from different contract(s) for a one-night reservation (unless they have the same contract number--so you can combine add-on contract points w/master contract points, but not points between two (or more) master contracts--

Once you figure out how you want to address your situation, go to the R/T Board & read the stickies on top--that'll tell you how to go about looking for points (for transfer or rent)...

Good luck!

The OP could get a transfer into her account to use those points. The transferred points would be considered the same as her points, so she could use them for a single night.

But she couldn't rent enough points to add to the existing points for the reason you say AND the points wouldn't be her points to use. She would only be renting a reservation.

For the OP to rent out her points, she would need to have enough points to make a reservation with them. And rent the reservation. Or she could transfer them to someone else who could use them before they expired.

I think the confusion here is between RENT and TRANSFER. You rent a reservation. You transfer points.
