Info wanted on MNSSHP please!

I have just returned from a fantastic Halloween trip at DLP, having spent 2006 and 2005 Halloween night at the Halloween soiree. The only think letting the place down is the cold weather, so I now have a plan on the backburner to visit WDW at Halloween either 2007 or 2008 depending on the finances. Anyway..what I need to know is....do people dress up in Halloween costumes in the same way as in DLP, or do they have to tone it down in any way so it is "not so scary". Is it the same idea, whereby you buy a separate ticket and the park is only open to the ticket holders in the evening of the party. Any information would be gratefully received.

Yes same idea with ticket.We have done WDW for past 3 years before this one. It starts officially around 7pm but they allowed us in from around 4pm If they did not change it this year giving you a wristband so they know who is there for Halloween. This year we did DLR Cali and there they clear the whole park and dont let you in until time ticket states.
Dont know what type of comtumes you haad in DLP nevr been. But in WDW a ot of people dress as Disney Characters. DS has been as Pirate and Harry Potter. I have been as a Vampire and DW as a Witch. Nothing OTT and faces can't be covered with masks. The nearer to 31st Oct the busier it gets, First year we did it there were no lines at any ride even stayed on a few as nobody was waiting.

Thanks..the costumes at DLP can be quite gruesome..with some very horrible masks. We tend to go as film or ride characters when we go, so that should be ok. How busy is it likely to be on 31st October itself?

I'v been a few times on 31st and it is busier than the other nights. It tends to be busier on Fri and sat's but it never seems as busy as a normal day at MK. As the others have said most people tend to dress as disney characters and nothing too gruesome. I believe the halloween night at universal is a lot more gruesome but I've never been. If you do the earlier parade you find the park a lot more quite as the night goes on as most people with small children tend to do the ealier parade, watch the fireworks and then go ealier. Then when the later parade is on the park is quieter. This is the time we nornally go to disney as the weather is great and EPCOT also has the food and wine festival on at the same time. MNSSHP is great. We love it. We ensure our FL holidays are arranged around going to the party. Everyone dresses up as Disney costumes some witches etc. I think I saw only one or two slightly scary. To be honest thats better suited at Universal Halloween. I would not allow my dh dressing up too scary around Disney when its meant for kids and grown up kids I have a feeling you cant dress up the Universal halloween nights. Also these are aimed at adults or teenagers. Children not advised.

The parade is excellent and the fireworks are the best in my opinion. Worth every penny. We went a couple of days before the 31st and it was sold out. Even though it was sold out I didnt think it was too bad. Although we never went on the rides. We thought it was a waste of an evening going on the rides. Instead we enjoyed what they offered i.e disco with characters, trick or treat, parade, fireworks, meeting characters dressed up in halloween costumes, free picture, free face painting etc. It was great worth every penny. Next yr we will be going in September, but ensured we would be there for the halloween festivals.

We've been twice to WDW for Halloween - 2002 and 2006. In 2002, we went on Halloween night and although it was busy, not quite what I would call crowded (nothing like Christmas Day LOL!)

This year we went twice 17th and 26th (both weekdays) and found reasonable crowds and mostly 0 or 5 minute waits for the rides!

There is usually a mixed crowd at MNSSHP - some in fancy dress, some not - but nothing too scary or grotesque there!

Universal's HHN does not allow fancy dress and is aimed at adults (or older teens) and alcohol is on sale all over the place. We did not attend HHN, but left as the park was preparing for opening and saw many party-goers arriving as we were leaving, too.

We had a lot of fun, DD especially loved being called "Princess Ariel" everywhere we went (no guesses there then about who she "was" at MNSSHP!)

We had a great time at MNSSHP. I'd say it is about evens with people dressed up and not, we certainly did. I saw a couple of freaky scary looking costumes which I was suprised at but on the whole it was harmless tv and film characters. the parade and fireworks are very good and there is tons of candy to be had if you are happy to line up for a couple of minutes in each line (the lines look worse than they are) I didn't feel the park was too crowded except for Main St, but I did go on a Thursday so can't compare to Friday or Saturday. I think it was definately worth the extra money. So many characters available including these little guys:

Was a great atmosphere and I can't wait to go back and do it again,

Lovely photos Claire. Love your costume. I am pleased you had a great time. We left 7-8 bags of candy. They were full. We had one each and as we left Alice In Wonderland Trick Or Treat they gave us two full bags of candy. It lasted for months. My kids were really happy.

Went to MNSSHP on 10/10 this year felt out of place not being dressed up, some of the costumes were great, when we got on the monorail we were promptly joined by the INCREDIBLES yes a whole family dressed up, mother, father, son daughter and baby!! it just went on like that all night so may families dressed up a great night although a bit cool, that night down in the 70's ha ha. next year we are all getting dressed up thinking what to wear already.

We had a fabulous time at MNSSHP on the 30th October this year. There were loads of people dressed up and Loads not, but we did and thought it was great. Although both Vicki and I dressed up in what I would call more traditional halloween costumes (a witch and a slayer) there were some fantastic costumes mainly Disney Characters and for some reason a lot of Doctors and Surgeons.

The halloween parade was fantastic and we managed to get tons of candy from the trick or treat stops.

We also went on the 30th as 31st was sold out (bought tickets when we got there on the 21st) - it was our first time at MNSSHP so were weren't too sure about the dressing up, so i bought an orange halloween t-shirt and DH wore a bandana and eye patch and bought a pirates of the carabbean t-shirt. it was fab and we already plan to go back in 2008, this time in full costume! we got loads of candy (we have no kids!) and stickers and really enjoyed the atmosphere, went on Haunted Mansion and they had dimmed the lights even more in there and added more scarey stuff in the grave yard bit. Only went on cos no line. parade was fab, watched it twice - loved cpt jack sparrow! also went to universal halloween horror night twice, first night made the mistake of going at the weekend and it was full of locals and packed, lots of beer flowing - dont understand why they sell beer, and telling people to drink it up before going through a haunted house!!! we only got through 2 of 7 of the houses cos it was so busy. then went back on a wednesday night and got through the other 5 and there were more tourists than locals and a good atmosphere - was not allowed to dress up but was a fantastic night if you enjoy being scared!!!!!!

On the Disneyworld web site you can find the telephone number to order them from April/May or a little later you can order them on-line. A lot of people ordered them through the post or alternatively collected once they got there. We plan on doing this next year also.

Unless you plan on going on the busiest night ie Halloween 31 Oct which is usually sold out, you can purchase them when you get there from guest services, buy them a few days in advance and benefit from a reduced rate. I have done this the last 2 years and plan on doing the same next year, you can get them at downtown disney guest relations, it's a great night not to be missed!!
If you want total piece of mind as others have said book them in advance
