info on straps attached to tripod mount

An interesting article, and an equally interesting response from Canon on using the tripod socket for carrying the camera. I bet someone in Canon has full specifications for the strength of the tripod socket but they are not going to go out on a limb and say it is ok to carry the camera by the socket. Can't say I blame them, the first one that hits the ground would then be Canon's fault.

I wonder if any tripod mounts have failed while being used for straps?
My new camera is light enough that I use a small wrist strap. The strap proudly says "Canon" but the camera is Panasonic. :)

I use the optech dual harness, I feel safer with both cameras supported by the normal strap lugs

Me too, and i dont worry having a 1d and a 7d hung there, i tried a BR but never felt happy with it.

I just purchased a Black Rapid-4 strap. Without a doubt the best camera strap i have ever owned. I have a t2i which is fairly light and my lenses are not very heavy at all. I have no concerns about the tripod mount braking. My concern was always and still is about the screw working its way loose. To solve this i have a safety strap from the post to a non breakable part on the black rapid setup. I feel very confident this will more then do the job.

only downside is that when i want to use the tripod i have to take off the screw and attach the QR plate
